Berjaya Hotel is a grand entrance. Feels like premium hotel and is best for the people who want to explore the beach. The view from the hotel was very serene, waking up to the sight of beach is amazing. The train passes by every few minutes which might be a nuance if you like absolute quiet environments. There are restraunts and bars nearby on the beach which is a 2 minutes walk from the hotel.
It was strange to find a lack of amenities in the room like toothbrush, toothpaste and slippers. I had a walk a couple of kilometres to find a shop to buy slippers before I could take a shower and relax after a long flight. The staff was very helpful during the checkin and checkout process helping me carry my luggage even at 4am in the morning.
The complimentary breakfast was also delightfully diverse with a mix of Desi, Continental and Srilankan dishes. Overall I enjoyed my stay. I hope the hotel management can add to the amenities so the international travellers can have a more comfortable stay.

This hotel was one of the most surprising I’ve stayed at. I have never heard of a hotel making it compulsory for guests to pay for a Gala dinner on December 31st. Nowhere on their website or the Trip.com app was it mentioned that guests are required to pay $30 USD per person before booking. Instead, they only inform you after you've made your reservation.
When I arrived and checked in, the customer service representatives told me I had to pay $120 USD for four people attending the Gala dinner. When I explained that I didn’t want to attend, they refused to give me the room key.
As for the Gala dinner itself, there were very few options for vegetarians, but the desserts were quite good.
Regarding the room, the bed frame was chipping, and the chairs had noticeable dark stains. While the hotel has a beautiful beachfront view, there's a train track directly in front, and every time a train passes, the noise is extremely loud.
If you're planning to stay here for New Year's, I strongly recommend calling the hotel in advance to confirm their policies. On a positive note, the young front desk staff were polite and helpful.
