The location by the sea provides a peaceful retreat with easy access to Santa Maria and the beach. The staff offers exceptional service, but guests have reported discomfort with the beds and bedding quality.

Our second accommodation on the island after Santa Maria. Murdeira Village is the place for peace and quiet, no music in the daytime anywhere… heaven! Our room was at the back of the village, giving us sunshine on the balcony in the morning, out of the wind, plastic furniture is tiny and broken on the balcony, we used the sitting room chairs. The room is big, well maintained, very basic, not really a kitchenette we only had two odd glasses, two odd tiny cups and we had to ask for a kettle. The Fridge is tired but ok, no cooking facilities. No aircon needed for sleeping, I could feel the springs in the bed, slept on a duvet thing did help. Lovely fresh cotton sheets every couple of days. Laundry very clean and the room was cleaned everyday. Blackout curtains. That sand does get everywhere! The shower is very good if you have it before everyone else. A small shop down the road. There is rocky Sandy walks up and down the coast from the village. Average temp was 25 degrees, perfect. Evening cooler and sleep able. Our air cushions came in handy on the sun loungers, there are not enough sun loungers round the pool but we managed to get some most days. The sun loungers are homemade wood and not the ones on the website, no loungers on the beach as in the website images. The cushions mats are spilt and tired but they are comfy if you get out of the wind. Would be great to have loungers on the beach or beach chairs and wind breaks. More wind here as it is exposed, the cove bay is swimmable when the sea is less rough. Some coral and fish here, we did snorkel and you can sea turtles. The hotel beach bar / restaurant and beach bar has good food. We had the b&b options, one of everything off the breakfast list. Dried French bread jams and butter, egg (how you like them), fruit salad, yogart, a ham and cheese sandwich (good for lunch). The pool is busy at weekend. Sunset most nights, depending on the amount of sand in the air. We hailed the local bus at the roundabout into Santa Maria, €1.20 each, cozy hiace vans, very friendly and wonderful people. Very easy to get back too.

Can’t give a review about the hotel, but for the Pool Bar, Baia Murdeira restaurant and Nautical base, and those 3 are just perfect, very friendly team, good and tasty food (from burger to xmas dinner) . Thank you to all of you, I spent a great time with you!! 5*++

I spent 10 days at this hotel while traveling alone. Overall, everything went well. The pool is saltwater and is cleaned every evening, though the surroundings are a bit dated. The room wasn’t spotless, but it was generally clean, and the bedding was okay. A minor downside is the Wi-Fi, which rarely worked in the room. However, it’s of good quality at the reception and in the restaurant. The restaurant (I was on half-board) offers classic European food (pasta, pizzas, burgers, omelets, etc.) along with two different meat dishes each evening. Breakfasts are very good. The staff is very friendly, though I did have an uncomfortable experience with one waiter who was a bit intrusive, making me uneasy despite my refusals to 'get friendly' with him. But all the other people working at the hotel and restaurant were very professional, caring and friendly. There are security guards who patrol during the day and night, which is quite reassuring. There’s a shuttle to Santa Maria twice a day, but it would be nice if there was an extra trip in the mid-afternoon. I had a nice stay at Murdeira Village !

This hotel was very disappointing. I would not class it as even one star. To start with the food. We paid for half board. Breakfast consists of scrambled egg, tinned mushrooms and there was bacon only on one day. The only cereal was coco pops. Dinner was made as cheap as possible. Also very limited and served with chips and rice every day. The hotel rooms were very outdated and the bath and shower were appalling. The hotel pool actually didn't belong to the hotel, it was the village pool which is used by all the village residents. The toilets didn't have any water in them to flash the chain or wash your hands for 3 days. The hotel is also a small terrace down one of the roads in the village. The spa advertised was just a small shack which was never open. This hotel was such a disappointment and nothing like what was advertised. We expected a half decent place to stay and some nice food. On new years eve they did a buffet which was the only nice meal we had all holiday. The only positive thing I can say about our stay was that the staff were very friendly and tired their very best to make do with the limited resources to their disposal. Sal was chilled and we liked the island itself.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It's no way a 4 star. I've been in a 3 star which had much better service and quality. The staff are very nice but the hotel is crap sorry to say. The breakfast was cold every morning, nothing in the hotel worked, they have no iron to iron your clothes, air conditioning didn't work, phone in room didn't work, fridge and kettle we're broken, ants we're in the beds. They have no entertainment, the drinks and food wasn't good and to make things worse they have the cheek to want to charge people room tax. Stay away from this hotel if your looking for the basics. The electric even cut out one night when I had to wake up to use the bathroom.

This was just bad. Room looked great at first, but the terras had a flickering light - would be fixed immedeately accoring to the receptionist, but never got fixed), tv-remote without batteries (they could fix that), taking first (cold) shower restulted in two broken parts (towel-hanger and shower itself fell down). Then there was the rest: in the info-paper it stated that no reservation of pool-beds was allowed... well all had "some" reservation marks on them like hats/towels/other stuff, but most of them were never used, so the typical annoying reservation system was in place, staff did not intervene and let go so only with some arrogance you could claim a spot near the swimming pool. And then the food. We ordered pizza's, sure the were frozen minutes before. The breakfast was also just heated up canned food. And a funny thing the rooms come with tea-cups and tea-bags, but no water-cooker. We asked, they would arrange it... but of course never did.

all inclusive at half board level. On the hotel beach 4 (four words)! wooden deckchairs and 6 umbrellas... Difficult entry into the ocean over rocks - water shoes required. Overall a boring place - nothing to do here. Older equipment of the apartment. The staff seem to pretend they are there for punishment.

As other travelers have mentioned, I only can confirm this place isn’t really worth the money. We first booked two rooms directly with the hotel but have been told there are no rooms left. Yet on Agoda and Booking still were, so we booked them from there. Once arrived we were not really sure we would get the rooms, given their confusing emails, and the lady at the reception was really rude and impolite, ignoring our questions and just laughing and asking for the money. The two rooms (80$ each) were with no breakfast, at the very end of the village, last row, parallel to the highway Esparagos-Santa Maria. Tea bags available but no kettle. All very clean but shower broken, towels worn out, mini fridge terribly noisy and no way to plug it out. Terrace dirty and yeah, I understand u have 500 rooms to clean but hey, we are paying 😄 Swimming pool near this “restaurant” with really unpleasant staff; they asked us to order at the bar, the bar told us to order at the restaurant, they argued, in the and almost obligated us to pay 15€ and find something heated up in the -almost gone- buffet. Anything we pointed on the menu was “finish” or “tomorrow “ , accompanied by a laugh. As my mum suffers from diabetes and HAD to eat something, they agreed for a panini but 15 min later brought a salad… The FOUR,4!, wooden long chairs on the beach are a joke:) Still, if u enjoy wild beaches and do not need un umbrella, head left or right along the cost and you will find a better place. Also: they charge 15€ for a taxi to anywhere, but just exit the village, wait a bit on the main road and vans will stop and safely bring u for 1€ anywhere.
