Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel

Pros - restaurant staff is charming and most accommodating. Staff who greet you upon your trek return provide wonderful much appreciated foot massages and clean your boots for your next days adventure. Second floor dining room/ lounge comfortable. Food delicious. High marks for cleanliness and lovely grounds. Cons - standard room is a closet where no 2 people can stand at the same time. No shelves or draws to unpack your belongings and an open closet rack with only 2 hangers. Nowhere to sit except the bed as there no chairs in the room. Air conditioner, which is a plus, except the remote is in Chinese so we came back from dinner to a very hot room. Oh well guess we guessed wrong! And we were able to have a conversation with the people next door through the walls - that’s how thin they are. Now I understand why the standard room is not pictured on their website. Rooms are very clean but housekeeping inconsistent removing towels ( no we didn’t request this) and not replace them with new ones and toilet rolls not replaced. Also there was a debate between our tour director and the hotel as to which room was requested. We/ tour director thought deluxe but hotel claimed standard. Guess we’ll never know the truth. And while they offered to move us on day 2, too much effort for one last night. Our guess is the overbooked with 2 large tour groups so we got bumped. Summary very disappointing since they advertise themselves as an exclusive luxury lodge - couldn’t be farther from the truth. Also beware they seem to cater to, large tour group that commandeer the property. Sent from my iPad

Fabulous hotel. Staff was generous and responsive. Food was lovely and well presented. The grounds were beautiful! The open air restaurant was lovely for all meals. Weaver birds were creating beautiful nests in the trees as you eat. Automatic foot massages when you came back from treks were truly luxurious!

My husband and I spent a wonderful two nights at Five Volcanoes for gorilla and golden monkey trekking. Our room was very comfortable and the food was good. The staff was very friendly and we appreciated the gaiters they put on for us in the morning and the boot cleaning and foot massage after hiking. Breakfast is a nice buffet so you can eat a meal quickly before your early morning activites. We had an evening flight out of Kigali after golden monkey trekking and they let us come back and shower which was appreciated.

We stayed fir two nights. Great location as wxit poit to ctivities. Poor pool were expecting a normal size pool and jim at this rates... no view. The rooms are fair the honey moon suite is great but it comes with another price.... The staff is serviable the Loby is far for representing a hotel at this prices. The fire place in the dinig room is a nice place to end the day after dinner. .Meals are fair. Had better ...

We got to the hotel at 7:00, their copier was not working so we had to come back to get our passports copied, bad sign. The AC in our room was blowing hot air, informed the front desk about it, they came & but nothing. We come back from our gorilla trek the next day and still the same AC issue. So we spent two nights in a hotel we paid a bucket load of money, couldn’t sleep for two nights, were barely able to get through our gorilla trek because of it and no response or resolution from the hotel staff and management. Whatever you do, stay the heck away from this hotel. Not worth spending any money on this place.

Five Volcanoes is a great place to stay for gorilla trekking. They have a lovely and very attentive staff, all of whom seem to maximize the guest experience for trekkers and travellers alike. They have lovely and comfortable rooms and a nice spa and pool area to relax after hiking. They spoiled those going on the gorilla / golden monkeys treks by packing a picnic lunch snack, providing gaiters, massaging our feet and cleaning our shoes post-trek, and providing showers to clean up after the hike even on the check out day. We highly recommend it!
