One of the many lovely things about Phaedra hotel is its location. So beautifully placed, it’s an easy walk to the port, and there you have an exceptional choice of food, drink, great shopping but mostly the lively and enchanting village. and proximity to the water. Back at the hotel, the lovely room feels welcoming; terrific aircon which was s huge bonus this last week. Its also, far enough away, in a charming part of Hydra that one can feel involved in the village life… as well as being so very lucky to be able to make Hydra a destination for a marvellous holiday.

Phaedra Hotel was perfect. It is only5 minutes away from the port along level cobblestone path. The rooms are arranged over 2 levels with a shady terrace for breakfast or an evening drink. The whole hotel is not only immaculately clean but also with lush pot plants of basil, petunias and numerous others. The rooms are spacious and furnished beautifully. Breakfasts are homemade and generous - fresh squeezed juice, yogurt and honey, seasonal fruits, pastries etc To top it off, Hilda is an attentive and knowledgeable host - fluent in several languages and reliable in all things. Lina also looks after your every need. I think so Enjoy!

Wonderful hosts. Fabulous breakfasts. Oh the serenity! It is beautifully located so that you are away from the business but within easy reach of excellent restaurants, the port and all the magic that is Hydra. I would recommend it with open arms.

Lovely authentic Greek hotel with fantastic service and lovely staff. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and her staff. The breakfast was typically Greek and plentiful. The air conditioning was very welcome in the 40 degree heat. We would definitely return.

Hilda and her Phaedra Hotel are the highlights of our 5 week trip in Greece. Hydra is a beautiful island and the Phaedra Hotel is a standout. A short walk from the port it’s on a quiet street. Room was comfortable and the breakfast, which is served on the rooftop terrace by the very special Lena, was lovely. The real highlight is Hilda, the charming vivacious owner. She provided info on beaches and how to get to them that I wasn’t able to get online. She arranged for a driver to pick us up at Piraeus for our next destination back in Athens. But most spectacularly she arranged a pickup from the Port Police and courier service to return to us at our following destination in Iraklion a piece of luggage we actually left on the port and didn’t notice till the ferry had left!!! I can’t imagine this level of kindness and caring from any other place we’ve stayed. We’ll never forget our stay at the Phaedra Hotel and Hilda

I thoroughly enjoyed my three night stay at Phaedra Hotel in Hydra and I recommend it highly! My bedroom was spacious and I loved listening to the clip clop of horses & donkeys from the first floor window. I also enjoyed the breakfasts on the second floor terrace. The hotel was centrally located to everything and I always felt safe walking everywhere at night as a single woman. What made this experience a standout for me was that the owner, Hilda, went above and beyond to help me solve a problem that arose at the very beginning of my trip. I did not realize that I had accidentally left my passport in the safe at Phaedra Hotel until I was checking in to a hotel in Athens and I was to fly to a different island to join a retreat the next day. Obviously, without my passport, I would have not been able to do any of this and financial and logistical complications would have ensued. Fortunately, Hilda very kindly and quickly sent my passport (via donkey or human foot, not sure which) to the last ferry leaving the island for the day. The ferry then transported my passport to a taxi in Piraeus and the taxi brought it directly to my Athens hotel. All of this kindness occurring while I wandered around Athens and dined on a delicious meal! I had the MOST spectacular 24 days in Greece and Hilda made this possible because of her big heart. THANK YOU HILDA! I love Hotel Phaedra, Hydra Island, Greek cuisine and the Greek People so much! Karen McCall

Our stay at Phaedra Hotel on Hydra was so perfect that we decided to stay 3 extra days rather than visit any other islands. Phaedra offers a terrific home base for visiting this unique island. It is located a short walk from the port - far enough away to be quiet and close enough not to require a lot of uphill hiking when you simply want to go to one of the many shops and restaurants on the waterfront. Speaking of food, breakfast at Phaedra was one of the highlights of each day. It is served on a rooftop balcony and was truly bountiful. Each morning we had fresh juice, pastries and bread from the best local bakery, a homemade savory pastry, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, feta, yogurt, local honey and homemade jams. Our room had its own balcony overlooking the cobblestone street with a view of the mountains in one direction and the port in the other. At night we could close the shutters and windows and enjoy a quiet rest. Others in our group chose to sleep with their windows open and woke to the sounds of the roosters, birds and local activity. The bed was comfortable and the room was well appointed with plenty of closet and drawer space and lots of hangers. We had a small kitchen stocked with water, an electric kettle and tea. There is a two burner stove and refrigerator if you choose to cook. The best part of staying at Phaedra is Hilda. She is warm and welcoming and was ready to help us with any special needs. She can arrange excursions, point you to the best restaurants and shops and help with drivers to and from the ferry and airport in Athens. If you have not been to Hydra before you are in for a treat. The lack of cars make it truly unique retreat from the noise and haste of modern life. We spent our days hiking the mountains, enjoying the water and just sitting still. The sunsets are also truly magical. If I could give this trip 6 stars I would.
