Our stay was great but room was hot not possible to leave Windows open, due to rain coming inside room. The area has things to offer for sightseeing but 1 full day would have been enough to explore anything near by.

Schloss Purschenstein has an excellent restaurant, with delicious food and generous portions, and a maitre d with a warm and jovial personality. We ate there on two nights under the chandeliers and the high ceiling, soaking up the historic ambience and the friendly service. The venison medallions were highly recommended by one of our party, I loved the goulash with baked dumplings, and the chicken cordon bleu was melt in the mouth. To close, there is a wide selection of ice cream and sorbet, a wonderful creme brulee or a chocolate surprise. First class wine list including a local of unusual German wines, and cocktails from a full service bar. The check in was speedy and helpful, the room was warm and spacious - the bathroom was enormous with a good shower and a hot towel rail. There is outside parking on site (remember to bring a scraper or de-icer in winter as there was frost even on 3rd November). The village has several museums in walking distance, including one devoted to nutcracker toys, and one to glassblowing. Leipzig is just under two hours drive away, Saxon Swiss national park just over an hour away - we did an picturesque hike there amid the autumn leaves. The barrel vaulted cellar of the main tower has been converted to a small swimming pool with outside sun terrace (or snow terrace in winter) and there is a sauna and a steam bath as well, although the steam bath was out of service when we stayed. Breakfast is in the huge main hall and was ample, but lacked cappuccinos. The castle oozes history and whilst the rooms are not as high end luxury as some other schlosses in Europe, the price reflects this.

We came here again after a year for our wedding anniversary and we were again very satisfied. Great value for the price.. Cherming castle atmosphere, beautiful room. There was almost empty wellness area and pool so we enjoyed it a lot. Also we had delicious dinner and breakfast and nice walk around the castle.

I stayed here during a recent trip to Seiffen. I was so excited to get to sleep in a castle, but the reality sadly did not meet expectations! When I pulled into the parking lot, the place looked absolutely magical. It really is a beautiful property. The staff when I checked in could not have been more welcoming, but after that things went downhill. I don’t think the property was full (based on the number of cars in the parking lot) but I was put into an outbuilding not connected to the castle. My room was extremely disappointing – bare bones is an understatement. It had a twin bed, an old chest and a small table and chair in the room, and that was really it. The bathroom was actually nicer than the hotel room! I had had a long day and was very tired so I slept well, but the accommodations look NOTHING at all like anything I had seen on the website. This was really disappointing. And a sidenote – although the area is lovely, if you’re traveling to Seiffen, you may be better suited in going onto your next location and not spending the night in the area. Pretty much everything in Seiffen closes at 5:00, and even the grocery stores closed at 7:00. In the winter it gets dark there around 4:30, so there’s really nothing to do in the evenings. If you want to get a jump on your next day, you may be better suited to go ahead and go. Again, this really was a lovely property and I wish I could’ve explored more outside but there was a lot of snow on the ground and I was ready to move on to my next location – but with nothing really going on in the evenings around there and the subpar accommodations I had, you may want to look elsewhere.

The hotel was centrally located to allow us to drive to Seiffen - about 10 minutes away. The room was very comfortable and the views from the top floor of the castle were excellent. However, be aware that the ceilings on the top floor are slanted and you can easily hit your head if you're not careful. With the snow on the ground, the walk from the parking lot to the castle was a bit treacherous as the driveway was not fully cleared.

The good: the castle and grounds are indeed romantic and the experience was just okay. The bad: We were there for my wife's birthday, and nothing really went our way. Our room was in the coach house, not the castle. They had no room for us to have dinner there that night, despite us trying to reserve 4 hours in advance. They charged us 80 euros for 2 additional beds, but when we arrived at the room, it had sufficient permanent beds, but they would give us a refund. In fact, their bill charged us more than the amount that was on our receipt, with no explanation. I had told them in advance it was my wife's birthday, but the staff did nothing extra or special. All in all, it wasn't bad, but we found the staff unwilling or unable to make our stay feel special.

This castle was just as described! Lots of castles in the area to visit and trails for hiking. Really enjoyed the countryside!

The castle beautiful and the rooms that my family stayed in were nicely remodeled. One of them did not have a window that opened which was a little warm for sleeping. The restaurant was accommodating and staff kind.
