Ruifang is the best base if you want to visit Jiufen and JinGuaShi by bus and Shifen, Houtong and Pingxi by train.
Do note the minshu (hostal) provides clean and basic facilities and is suitable for families and solo travellers. Walls are a little thin but Joe ensures he spaces out the guests whether he can. He is extremely helpful with tips on food & places of interest.

The service is good and the location is very convenient. There is a station nearby and there are many restaurants. The disadvantage is that there is no elevator. It is a bit dangerous and difficult to carry luggage up the narrow stairs. In addition, the air conditioning is not cool enough, but overall it is very good.
