They may be focused more on their staying guests than people visiting for just food. We visited with a group of friends for a Birthday meal. The restaurant was cold and empty which was a red flag for a Saturday night. They seated 8 of us on a table that was meant for 6 by putting a chair at either end of the table. This was weird as there was plenty of larger tables available so why would you squash us all together? Thinking the restaurant would start to fill up, we seated. No the restaurant never filled up. The week before Id emailed asking if I could have a jacket potato for when I got there, with my steak. I had no reply but seeing has they served Jacket potatoes on their lunch menu it shouldnt have been a problem. Nope, no potatoes, only chips but they did manage boiled rice. I asked for salad instead of peas and just got salad leaves! The steak wasnt seasoned very well and tasted funny. I only had half of it. The cost of the sirloin was £28 and my husband had a massive mixed grill and it was £17! how do they work that out? The service was terrible. The meals didnt come out at the same time, the brisket was dry as though it had been left under a heat lamp, we were waiting for cutlery to start eating our mains for ages. To say the restaurant was empty, why wasnt the service spot on? where were the staff? We were never asked if we wanted a dessert either, we just gave up and went to the pub across the square. Loads more atmosphere. Never again!

Located in the heart of a tiny village, a short and easy drive to Sherwood forest - this was a good choice. Their website and online booking are both "rustic/basic" and we almost didn't trust it. The parking area is small. You can tell that the owners take pride in what they do and for a historic building, it's in good shape and pretty clean. We were ready for a peaceful night and that's what we got. We had an upstairs room that had limited windows for any breeze (it was quite warm weather) but there were two fans which we appreciated. It was roomy with a big bathroom but very little space for luggage or hanging up clothes.......it was nice to have a big bed, but the pillows were tiny, lumpy and way past their prime. Except for the pub across the way, there isn't anywhere else to get lunch/dinner, so we opted to eat there and the food was better than we hoped (had a really good chicken Caesar salad) and reasonably priced. The bar area downstairs sounded like a fun party, but we weren't in the mood so we enjoyed listening to the fun and laughter....The breakfast spread was very good, we lingered a little longer than planned since we had so many choices. If ever travel in this area again, we would stay there again!

A really good overnight stay. More than was anticipated. Our room was very clean, with amenities like kettle, refreshments and biscuits. Bonus of a hairdryer too. TV with Netflix channels too. Another bonus was having the option of EV charging our car by our room. Private party was going on, but all quiet after 11pm, but it didn’t disturb anyway. We had an evening meal in the bar. Very well cooked and generous portion size, though we couldn’t finish our plates fully, though we tried! Reception, bar staff, waitresses were all very welcoming and friendly.

Stay here regularly as I work in the area. Great rooms, friendly staff and a lovely bar serving delicious food. Tonight had the mixed grill special and it nearly beat me. Highly recommend the Maypole if you’re in the area or passing through. Good value for money.

Awful. Coffee like dishwater. Buffet seemed just cheap supermarket quality. They’re have a kitchen and nothing seemed to be made in house. Awful. Perhaps the main menu food is better. Generally the pub needs some refreshing and updating.

Don’t go ! Disgusting food inattentive staff. We arrived early for a booked function room. We entered only to be ignored by a female busy on her phone not bothering to look up as we entered we found another person and requested a coffee as we were part of the party function later. Response was you just get what you are given which we were informed would be a filter coffee only to be presented with two instant cups and some old biscuit. The function food was stodgy cold and mostly left even bagged food was refused

Super easy check in and cannot fault the staff - very friendly and felt welcome as soon as we arrived. We only stayed one night so very much in and out, but the rooms were great for the value, clean and what you want for a single night stay. Would have been top marks but the rooms do get very warm in the summer and don’t have AC. There was a fan in the room that we were grateful for. Would return to this hotel if we came back to the area.

My wife and I stayed at The Maypole on Sunday as we were attending Pinewood Forest to watch Sting of the police in concert. We decided to take Sunday lunch in the brasserie and I can only say the food and desert was excellent. The room we stayed in was clean and tidy a few marked walls which was fair west and tear but overall the accommodation was clean and tidy. The following morning we had breakfast ( continental style) which was varied and plentiful. The staff from arrival to departure were very attentive and the entire visit was overall good value for money and I would definitely recommend this venue for a short break and I shall definitely stay over again if attending a forest live gig. Big thanks to the staff for making our stay a pleasant experience 👍🏽
