I loved my stay at Nikko Kanaya. First, there is a complimentary shuttle to pick you up from the train station (only a few pick-ups so you might want to schedule your train accordingly); otherwise city bus will drop you off but you will have to walk up a slightly long driveway. You are greeted by the nicest staff; everyone was such a delight! I stayed in the older part of the hotel, and it is old. (I heard that they renovated one building, but pretty expensive). I had room 54 - paid $369 for 2 nights - included a western breakfast, and dinner. Great deal! My room was spacious and had beautiful views. There is a slight odor, and I thought it might be musty, but I was in a wood shop later on in my stay and recognized it to be the same smell. So there is a ”woodsy” odor; the floor seemed to slightly slant, but it didn't bother me in the least. The breakfast is a Western style breakfast - you can order traditional Japanese breakfast 24 hours in advance, at at addt'l price; the dinner was absolutely amazing - 5 courses and just beautiful The history of the hotel is displayed throughout, and it is an amazing story. So many dignitaries have visited here. Great location - directly next to Shinkyo Bridge - I walked to the Shrines/Temple from the hotel - bus picks you up in front of the hotel if heading to Lake Chuzenji. I would definitely return - lovely!!

Slightly dated and quirky. Stayed in family room which had very steep stairs to the bed section. A bit overpriced for what it is, but this is Nikko. Comfortable enough. Breakfast quite Ok. Nice to be out of town which feels tired and mostly closes by 4.30pm each day. A lack of restaurants/cafes after that time. Everywhere looks rundown and disinterested. The lake and waterfalls were good but boat ride on lake was closed due to wind and (very small) waves which was disappointing.

The hotel is a luxurious Ryokan in Nikko, walking distance from all the temple. The bus station is directly at the hotel, also offers a shuttle to the train station (JR and Tobu). The rooms are typically Japanese-style furnished and very spacious. The person was not overwhelming by friendship, as we have never experienced. Onsen in the hotel was genial and also the rent kimono (named Yukata) gave the whole a typical Japanese style. The food is typically Japanese including breakfast and may not everyone's thing. Whoever does not want raw fish for breakfast, maybe should book here without meals.

What a remarkable experience! The inability to find words speaks volumes. Everything was flawless, meeting high Western standards. Additionally, we inadvertently left a sweater in the room as we continued to Tokyo. Upon contacting the hotel, the staff were immensely helpful in resolving the issue. They efficiently arranged for the sweater to be delivered to Tokyo, saving us considerable effort and allowing us to continue our journey peacefully. The service was exceptional, especially considering that the responsibility was entirely ours. Absolutely outstanding service..

I like the hotel very much. The price/performance ratio is very high. Although the hardware is not very new, the service and atmosphere are really considerate. There are drinks in the lobby, mulled wine and coffee, and a big stove. Come in and sit in the snow. It's so warm and feels like home. ! There is a way to get in from the main road, but there is a shuttle bus, and the uncles and sisters who drive are very nice. One day after hiking, I got off the bus and was thinking that there was still 500 meters of uphill to go back to the hotel when I saw a car next to me coming to pick us up. Oh, I was so moved instantly! It turns out that the bus goes back and forth and waits at the station. Remember that stop is 33A. Dinner is different every day. We stayed for three days, so it was quite satisfactory! Bathing in the hot spring is very good, I especially like the open-air one. There are woods outside. By the way, there are monkeys in the woods, a group of them, they live in harmony! My friend said that he must ask me to mention that there are little baskets to store clothes and other things when bathing. This is very thoughtful.

The Nikko town was quiet at night. There were not many restaurants and shops that opened. Luckily for this hotel was located opposite of family mart so you could always get food and anything you need. It's a budget hotel with simple service. I just thought it's perfect for few night stay if you were gonna use the public bus to travel around town. Same as other Japan typical hotel, the room was compact and mine came with bathroom and a small balcony that allowed you to enjoy the fresh air and a bit of a view. Overall I was just looking for a place to stay in town, near bus stop and convenient store so that made this hotel the ideal choice for me.

Asaya is a large onsen hotel rather isolated from stores, shops, and restos. Inside there are lots of them but I could not find a cup of coffee at 4:00 AM. There is free tea dispenser in the lobby. We all had access to the Premiere Club room by 6:00 AM where we could enjoy snacks and drinks and coffee. Breakfast is served for guests. We ate there and in the main dining room for one of our breakfasts. I loved their beef jerky which I took to my room to eat later. The main dining room for breakfast and dinner offered a hidden room with semi-privacy. The size of our tatami room with Premiere access was just enormous -- about as large as any hotel room I have ever had (one exception was in a Las Vegas hotel). The floor was mainly tatami mats but bamboo flooring in the bathroom and toilet rooms. The housekeeping is immaculate with daily service. There's a long queue just before dinner at 5:30. The food was delicious and plentiful with steak, crab legs, tempera, sashimi, and other seafoods. I enjoyed the soft serve.

I was disturbed by my family. Because it was summer, it was a little empty, but not only the proprietress but also the staff treated everyone, including foreigners, politely and kindly, and I was able to spend a pleasant time. The view of the Kinugawa river from the room was beautiful, and the bathroom was well-cleaned and beautiful. The room and toilet were clean. In addition, both dinner and breakfast were delicious with full Japanese taste. However, it may have been an adult taste for children in their teens.

I visited with 7 adults. The weather was unpleasant, but I had a very memorable and wonderful trip. Arrived at the hotel before 11:00 by shuttle bus. I forgot the name of the person in charge, but thank you for the agility of the shortcut staff. The hot spring of the sulfur spring The skin became smooth and the hot water temperature was just right (this day was about 12 ℃) The washing area was separated by a partition and the water pressure was good. The breakfast and dinner were all very satisfying. Supper was a full course today, but all the dishes were made with plenty of local ingredients, and the amount was just right, and my elderly parents had all of them firmly. Of course, breakfast and omelets were delicious, and all the dishes were delicious and polite service was exhausted. Since it faces Lake Chuzenji, I'm sure you can see even more beautiful scenery on a sunny day. Also, the lounge for guests on the second floor is a very nice space. I usually don't say word of mouth, but I couldn't help but say word of mouth because the staff of 々, who I was looking forward to, were hospitality and the whole family was impressed. It was a nice hotel that I really wanted to visit with everyone again. Thank you very much.
