KKR Numazu Hamayu

This hotel is a 10-minute walk from Numazu Imperial Villa Park. When we entered the room, my partner said, "This time we have an ocean view." So I replied, "We've always had ocean-facing rooms." Looking outside, the tops of the lush pine trees had been cut off. Until now, it was more of a "pine tree view" than an ocean view, but the view was open and it really was an ocean view of Suruga Bay. The sunset was beautiful. Also, the table and cushions in the room had been replaced with a table and a very low chair. I wish they had left one cushion, but this low chair was quite okay. The baths, which are switched between men and women, have a large indoor bath and an open-air bath, and the hot spring is free and transparent. There are no amenities in the washroom area. After the bath, I used the massage chair in the lobby lounge to relax. You can go out to the beach from the garden. We had dinner at the dinner venue. Because it was a standard kaiseki meal, when I looked at the menu, I thought there might not be many dishes, but it was very filling. Every dish was delicious. The grilled pork with miso sauce and the autumn-like rice (Hagi rice with ginkgo nuts, red beans, sweet potatoes, and sesame salt) were especially unique. I also ate the almond jelly for dessert. Breakfast was a buffet. There were local dishes such as Shizuoka oden and Fujinomiya yakisoba, which were quite good. The dried horse mackerel was not cut into pieces but was delicious as a whole fish, so my wife and I went back to get some. The quail eggs and konnyaku in the Shizuoka oden were soaked in dashi broth. We went back to get this again. The kushiage that we thought was kushikatsu was actually onion, and the onion was very soft. The miso soup was pork soup. The Fujinomiya yakisoba was chewy. I heard people inside the venue saying how delicious it was. If something was missing, the staff immediately replenished it, and the buffet table was kept clean, so we were able to eat comfortably. This time, we stayed on the weekend and it was quite crowded, but it was still a comfortable stay.

We used it again because the meal was good last time. This time, the plan was the top-class five-star kaiseki dinner. Usually, my family chooses the standard for both the room and the meal, but we found a 15,000 yen coupon from Numazu City, so we used it (through Jalan). The room was a normal, clean Japanese-style room. When I went to see my wife, she said that the room was nothing special, and she said that all the rooms at this type of inn (KKR ← National Civil Service Mutual Aid Association) are probably the same. However, when we looked at the pamphlet, we saw that there was also a deluxe room. The five-star kaiseki dinner plan included spiny lobster, Ashitaka beef, golden-eyed snapper, and abalone. The spiny lobster sashimi was a little parboiled, which was disappointing. The abalone was moving around a lot, so I wanted it to be made into sashimi, but there were many other customers and the staff looked very busy, so we gave up on the sashimi and had it grilled on its own, which was delicious because the ingredients were fresh. The red snapper was large, one for each person, and not too floppy, so it was delicious. There were four kinds of sashimi other than spiny lobster, and the yellowtail, sea bream, and red snapper were all fresh. The appetizer was summery, the fried food was bonito, and the dengaku miso was unique. The sake was 300cc and started at about 1,200 yen. It was very dry, and went well with the food. Breakfast was a buffet, and we were asked whether we wanted to wear plastic gloves or not, which made me wonder if it was worth it. I thought it would have been better if the plates had dividers (as there would have been a lot of plates). What was unique was that they had petit ramen, so we had ramen for breakfast. This time, thanks to a coupon from Numazu City, we were able to spend just under 20,000 yen for two people, despite the luxurious dinner, and it was a very satisfying stay.
