You can pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway less than 3 miles from the cabin and enjoy log range views for miles. No matter which direction you chose to go the famous scenic views of the parkway will not disappoint. Less than 1/2 mile from the cabin is the South fork of the New River. Public access allows canoeing/kayaking/tubing/fishing and even swimming!Less than 10 minutes from the cabin you can splash in the water and play at Elk Shoals, a tourist favorite in Ashe County. You can put your kayaks in at Elk Shoals and take out at Zaloos off Hwy 16 (about a 3-4 hour float). If you don’t have your own, don’t fret- you can rent canoes and kayaks from Zaloo’s just north of Glendale Springs or head south toward Todd and rent from River Girl Fishing. Here you can also rent bikes for the pleasant – and level – ride along Railroad Grade Road. Here you can embark on a 20-mile trip from Todd to Fleetwood to Todd again. Only ten minutes away you can enjoy excellent hiking and views from Mt Jefferson State Park. Enjoy a hike and a long range view picnic after. From here you are also about 30 minutes from all that Boone has to offer. Only another 15 beyond that you’re in Blowing Rock with even more shops, dining and antiques.
