The hotel is very well maintained and is perfectly located in front of the sea, the Noria and the fantastic and free Archeological Museum of Olbia. Exceptional views from your terrace on the 6th floor, accessible with the lift.

The hotel is attractive and new and the reception and breakfast room are traditionally decorated and light. We booked a deluxe room which is actually a 1 bedroom apartment. In the living room there is a kitchenette with full sized fridge/freezer, dining table and chairs, sofa bed and tv. The bed was very comfy and there was another tv in the bedroom. Channels are Italian or German. The best thing was the balcony directly overlooking Piazza Matteotti and the Trivenere di Veralto fountain. Bedding and curtains were new but the rooms could do with a little makeover to make them as attractive as the public areas . The air con and shower were not the best. But the accommodation is excellent value offering space and freedom, all the staff were lovely, the location is excellent and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. It is easy to walk to the waterfront and there is a large supermarket nearby, a mini Market next door but one and many eateries, bars and other piazzas to explore. We caught an open bus to Pittulongu beach and the landtrain around town. San Simplico and San Paulo and the Archaeological Museum are all easy to walk to. Do visit the rooftop of the sister hotel, Hotel Panorama (lovely staff again) , 2 minutes walk away, fabulous 360° views and at night the Orbia Ferris Wheel is mesmerising with it's kaleidoscopic lights. You can sunbathe up there, enjoy the views day or night and even use the phone by the lift to call down and order drinks. Access to their spa facilities can be booked for a fee. I would certainly stay at Hotel Regina Elena again.

Very good hotel - very good helpful staff. The issue for my wife and I is that the hotel is very isolated. There is nothing in terms of a bar or restaurant or shop (or anything!) within walking distance. we enquired about a Taxi to the nearest two towns but was advised that because the Taxi has to come from the Airport area, the fare would be 50 Euros each way to even the nearest town. We ended up renting a car for 4 days. So it is OK if you are happy staying and always eating at the Hotel, but if like us, you are B&B and like to go out for meals elsewhere I would avoid this otherwise very nice hotel.
Colonna Hotel du Golf

Just had a mixed stay in this hotel. It is a family hotel, mostly catering to German tourists (secondarily Italian, and a few French, Russian, Spanish, etc). Mostly families with small kids and a few elderly people. Positives: - Lovely setting by a very calm gulf - Nice grounds (garden, pool, etc) - Nice views - Lovely reception staff. We had a problem with the first room and they kindly and quickly changed it for us. - Rustic and slightly old fashioned but perfectly adequate rooms with nice balconies - Free shuttle to pretty Rena Bianca beach nearby - Comfortable beds Negatives: - Often crowded. Can be hard to get a seat at the swimming pool - Restaurant really poor by Italian standards. All sounds nice on the menu, but you get potatoes that have not even been drained, overcooked pasta, etc. Moreover, the restaurant is really gloomy, you eat inside in dark rooms in the Sardinian summer. Not great. - Restaurant staff not very pleasant. They seemed terrorised of a fairly inflexible maitre d'. We asked if we could eat ”outside” on the covered terrace instead of inside but told no. Then got to chat with another couple who apparently sat outside and wanted inside! Same dates as us, same half board, they were told no by the maitre d'h. How to be inflexible when you could have made 4 people happy! Oh and there were free, unreserved tables both inside and out! - The hotel's own ”beach” is not really a beach and the water is quite dirty with strange foam floating and plastic on the sand - VERY loud music all evenings from about 7 to about midnight. It starts with kids stuff in German. Always the same every evening. Then some not very good music/karaoke. I'm sure some people like this, but the sounds system is so bad you can't escape it. It is really loud and makes the walls bang! Don't expect to do anything during the animation time till midnight - not sleep, not speak, not work, not read, not watch tv, not cuddle with your partner, nothing. The music is really invasive. - Breakfast very poor. Cheap ingredients, fake watery juice, canned fruit or apples/oranges in the middle of summer. Nothing Sardinian. - If you don't have a car, there is nothing around. - Definitely a 3* at best, nothing 4* about it. Would we come again? Hard to say. Rooms and views are nice and prices correct for the area. Maybe we would come back if we had a car, no half board, and planned to ”escape” to visit/eat out every evening from 7 to midnight! But in the conditions we did this time, probably not.
