Berkeley River Lodge

The Berkeley River Lodge is truly amazing! From the moment we arrived, all of our expectations were exceeded. From the detailed itinerary, the endless refreshments that seem to pop up everywhere, the cheese boards, the fantastic meals ( including our freshly caught fish) and the truly amazing staff who made sure our experience was as good as it could be, you succeeded. Magnificent. Excellent service provided by Dave and the whole team. Great selection of activities but no pressure to do anything. Cabin had a sensational view of the coast. Loved the outside bathroom. This is a very special place. dkfdlfjdlfkj

We stayed 5 nights at Berkeley River Lodge in early July 2024. The entire experience was fantastic. The unique remote location and views over the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, the Berkeley River and ranges are breathtaking. The design of the villas and lodge itself also contribute to a unique experience. However it is the quality of the staff, their professionalism and friendliness that contributes so much more to the overall experience. Dave and Axl professionally managed the programming of daily activities for a maximum of 40 people, while accommodating all the individual requests and changes to schedules, all done with curtesy and a smile. The quality of the food, including a 5 course degustation dinner each night, was amazing and the chefs are to be congratulated. The villas were very comfortable and clean, each providing majestic views. It was lovely to shower under the stars at night. A couple of tips - the roads and tracks between the villas and the main lodge are a thick red dust - so take the advice and do not wear white clothing or shoes for activities. Light long sleeve shirts are recommended and worn by most for the outdoor activities. Dressing for dinner is ‘smart casual’ - I recommend leaving the ‘pretty sandals or heels’ at home, they will only get stained. My teva sandals were my most worn footwear - as I could hose them down, the sole gripped on all surfaces - including rocks & could get wet too.

The private villas are incredible, especially the out door bathrooms. Our view from our wonderfully comfortable king bed over the Bonaparte Gulf was magnificent. Each guide was skilled, professional and helpful, and every activity is captivating. Worth every cent

Trip was incredible, we loved everything about it. The food was fabulous, great range and matched wines were excellent. I was disappointed I couldn't try more of the lunch menu which looked so tasty, I needed more days! Issy, Christian and Emily are gems in the kitchen. Rooms were great and loved the outdoor bath and stargazing. Big thanks to housekeeping team who kept everything clean and provided a laundry service. All the excursions were great, and there was good variety. Hard to pick a favourite but so relaxing to have your itinerary planned out for you. Shout out to Bruce, Pete, Laura and Jack for being great guides. All the staff were friendly and helpful - Axle, Tomas, Emilie, Dave and Amy were all wonderful and looked after us during the day.

Our stay at Berkeley River Lodge was overall very enjoyable from the moment we arrived. While we had some understanding of the lodge's remoteness, landing on a dirt airstrip and being transported by a Unimog to the lodge immediately emphasised the unique blend of luxury and wilderness. Each evening brought anticipation for the culinary delights that awaited us. Sharing our daily adventures with fellow travellers and receiving recommendations for upcoming activities was a highlight. We left with a sense of gratitude that Berkeley River Lodge provided a glimpse into the Kimberley’s past and the unique wilderness of this special place. It is a destination that must be visited to fully appreciate one of the world’s most remote and beautiful settings.
