Newa Chen Historic House UNESCO

Right from being presented our beautiful juice in the courtyard, to climbing the narrow stairs to our centuries old room (mind your head if you're over 5.5!) The experience offered by this social enterprise guest house was exceptional. The bed was comfy, the decor gorgeous , the young staff attentive and the breakfast was delicious. Totally recommend staying here

Beautiful hotel in a XVII century Nepali home, restored with great care. It is a privilege to be able to stay in a place like this, every corner is exquisitely decorated and a testimony to life in the valley hundreds of years ago. Staying in it feels like travelling back in time. Sitting in the courtyard for breakfast is a delight. The staff is attentive and friendly. Breakfast is individually prepared, simple but complete. The location is excellent: a 3 minute walk from Patan Durbar Square which is an absolute wonder. My room was low ceilinged but very large, with two rooms and a full bathroom, tastefully decorated. Rooms that head onto the street are a bit loud due to motorbike traffic so ask for those opening into the courtyard. An experince not to be missed.

Newa Chen is absolutely delightful First time in Kathmandu, picked this for it's fabulous location in a vibrant artsy neighborhood near Patan Darbur Square as a friend was staying nearby. I am so very happy I picked this place. Wonderful historic place with a wing added that is more modern but in keeping with the original architecture, the room I booked was in the new section so the ceilings are high and the windows face over the courtyard to the original part of the hotel. The courtyard is delightful, providing a calm sanctuary from the bustling neighborhood around and we met the owner there one evening as he lit his offering - the original family live in a part of the old house. The bed was fantastically comfortable the bathroom super clean and fresh, the staff happily lugged my suitcase up and down from my room. I think it has something like ~ 14 of the 'Superior' rooms in the new section, so it's not a big place which means it is intimate and the desk and kitchen staff know who you are the minute you arrive - totally charming, Newa Chen will now be my go to preferred guest house in Kathmandu any time I'm here.. (and ..it's really close to the airport, so not too much sitting in crazy traffic to get here).

Also a pleasure to come to this ancient gem! The staff are like extended family and the place itself is an oasis of calm and simplicity. Love it! Also amazing with our children, so great for families. Delicious and generous breakfasts. Cannot recommend enough:)

Great location, around 100 metres walk to Patan Durbar Square. Very atmospheric building, lovingly restored. Sure, it has low ceilings in the old part but you know that when you book it. Really helpful, friendly staff and mighty fine breakfast. Was tricky to find initially, but that was our fault.

Old friends Have stayed there several times before; The owners have treated us like family. Now under new management, and the staff is less experienced. Still a great hotel in a great location
