Instead of a paradise island, a trash island: abandoned by the Indonesian state, by its inhabitants and by stupid tourists who only have eyes for snorkeling and sunsets without worrying about a landscape devastated behind their backs. Otherwise, how can we explain that no one is talking about it?? They described to me a quiet island that can be explored by bike or on foot. But before my eyes, disarray and sadness: Buildings abandoned and destroyed by the 2018 tsunami, extremely poor habitats, vegetation that does not grow back, pollution, open-air recycling center. The accommodation is located in the middle of the island. Everything is OK (just smaller than in the photos): clean, new and maintained. Salt water in the shower and in the swimming pool (very very hot), mosque that wakes up and as soon as we leave the place, a landscape of desolation is before our eyes. To return in the evening from a restaurant by the ocean, a 15-minute journey in total darkness and surrounded by this silent, decimated and hostile “nature”. Simply ridiculous and creepy. In addition, the 100% male accommodation staff is omnipresent: 4 men for 6 bungalows (including 3 occupied during our stay) that's a lot. 2 girls, we felt very uncomfortable under their gaze. We better stay 6 nights, we left the next day (the owner still has not responded to my request for a partial refund). In any case, this accommodation is too expensive for what it is. Besides, every island is almost entirely male. We barely saw a few women. There are more chickens 🐓 than women on this island. So I don't advise anyone to come there.
