Most appalling and upsetting visit!!! My friend was ejected for resting his eyes before eating. He had just lost his mum and been told they were discontinuing treatment for terminal cancer, so decided to go away for a few days, stopped here for a rest and food but was left embarrassed and devastated. This is supposed to be a public house, warm and friendly but sadly just a very rude landlady. Maybe a lesson needed in customer service or a change of occupation!!!!! Not all illnesses are visible, just maybe some people need to be around the warmth of life not pushed into an empty room alone

We stayed here for two nights and had a lovely room. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was very modern. Adele was a wonderful host and gave us such a warm welcome. The bed was very comfortable and heating was plentiful. The cooked breakfast was amazing and overall, we could not fault anything. Will definitely be returning!

Lovely clean rooms, very friendly & helpful staff and top class food, I am not surprised they won Taste of the West GOLD. Have stayed several times and never diss appointed. Great beer gardens at the rear, always a pleasure to stay.

I'm from Cornwall originally and used to live in Penryn. We were visiting family for the weekend and stayed at the Scholar, having been there several times before for food and drinks. A beautiful room, with a very comfortable bed and everything you would want. Dog friendly too! As with all the food, breakfast was also fantastic. A great choice. We celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary there over the weekend and enjoyed some fantastic food and a few drinks. The owners and staff were fantastic too. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you so much for a great weekend. We'll be back soon!

Excellent Sunday lunch. Very good value, copious, delicious. Pleasant and expert service. Comfortable and cosy on a wet weekend. Will be booking again, and also for evening to try the Bloody Mary Starter Crumpet speciality. Beer was fine.

Super overnight stay at The Thirsty Scholar visiting the uni. Adele was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Quaint room with lovely modern decor in a lovely old building and food was very good, Would definitely recommend.

Located at the top of the town good proximity to the railway station and short stroll downhill to the harbor area - walkable to Falmouth, but is a reasonable distance. Stayed in a double room, stylish, mostly clean and tidy would benefit from a couple of 'snagging' repairs (door handle and shower controls) - no chair in room. Staff friendly and attentive. Best bit was the food - evening Fish & Chips were excellent and very good Full English Breakfast.

Wow do not go here!! The most unpleasant land lord, and the food was awful... If you don't mind a rude bar man and crap food then it's worth it for the kids menu £1 a meal... Can't argue with that to be fair. Save yourself the bother and go somewhere else!
