We stayed at the Elix Mar-Bella from the 8th to the 22nd June (14 days) and we had room 302 This was an indulgent escape holiday booked with Jet2 By way of background we only stay in premium hotels, and we take 3 big holidays a year - one long haul and two in Europe, plus several long weekends. Highs The views from the hotel, especially the sunsets were great The beach is excellent and we enjoyed the exercise we got from chosing to walk every day - the beach can be reached by funicular (it’s 277 steps). The staff are generally very friendly and helpful The Spa is amazing and in particular the masseuse is amongst the best we have encountered (there is a masseur and masseuse) The gym is well equipped The buffet restaurant was good and the staff were brilliant Our room was large with a big terrace and the bed was very comfortable The Catamaran cruise day was superb - we’d recommend this Lows On the first day, the bathroom door, when closed, would not open! - we had to call maintenance On day 3 the toilet leaked and we had to call maintenance The bathroom / toilet floor was not cleaned for 3 days (we know this because a dead bug was not removed during this time!) I had to call reception to ask house cleaning to come and clean away the bug The towels were always wrong - missing something - floor mat, face towels, only one bath towel etc. We called about this too. The mini bar was not automatically restocked when you used something - I ate the nuts on the 2nd day, they were never replaced. The coffee machine in the room that takes capsules requires a “trick” to make it work properly - this “trick” is not written anywhere. We discovered it only because we asked reception to send someone to change the machine - it just crushed the capsules all the time. My Nespresso machine at home doesn’t require a special “trick”. We had no hot water on the morning of our departure - so we could not shower before leaving. One trip to Parga a week offered by the Hotel should be increased - we went by taxi and it was ridiculously expensive Our room (we had paid to upgrade) was adjacent to the service road to the beach. That means the terrace wasn’t private at all with people and delivery vehicles going back and forwards at all times - so we had limited use of it. Moreover those guests in the room above splashed water from their private pool onto our terrace when we sat outside, which made in unusable. More seriously In the Pearl and Indigo restaurants in our first week, no attention was paid to our gluten free requirements and it seemed as though the staff either didn’t understand or hadn’t been trained. We heard a similar story from other guests we spoke with. My partner was given caffeinated coffee on the beach (twice on the same day) when we had specifically ordered decaffeinated - she had a serious reaction to this that evening. Getting allergies wrong can leave someone seriously ill! Other considerations There is only one large pool and this had childre
