"The smoke alarm was chirping due to a low battery when we entered the room. They came to “fix” it within 15 minutes but the maintenance man had no idea how to operate anything. I had to show him how to remove the alarm from the wall, how to open it up and remove the battery, how to put the battery in properly. He attempted to reconnect the wiring to the back of the alarm for about 10 minutes. And then finally hung up the alarm on the wall. After he left the room, I had a weird feeling that he never successfully connected the wiring, so I took the alarm off the wall to check. Sure enough, the wiring was not connected and was just stuffed back into the wall (picture). I was able successfully reconnect the wiring and then hung the alarm back on the wall. Scary and disappointing that this person their maintenance staff. What if there would have been a fire?"
