Popular Pingyao 4-star Hotels

Great place in Pingyao. It is reasonably priced, a bit out of the very center (meaning also out of tourists crowds that can be quite noisy in the evenings and mornings), but still close, has same old-style design as the more popular and well-established places that cater to foreigners, but priced twice as much. Pick-up and drop off service is provided - just contact the hotel in advance via phone using the reception of tour previous hotel - no one speaks English - it will solve your communication issue if you do not speak Chinese. At the place itself everyone is very eager to help - use your phone app to translate. Onwer helped me to buy tickets to Pingyao attractions and Terracota Army as I was heading to Xian next (available only through WeChat Pay that is in turn is not availablefor foreign tourists as of April 2023). If you go to Shuanglin temple, be sure to ask to buy tickets through WeChat for you as well. I was able to buy physical one by pure compassion of local guard who asked the staff to open ticket office just for me (Probably was the only foreigner in Pingyao at a time). Please also note that as of April 2023, the reconstruction works in the historical city parts are continuing, so, large chunks of the city within the walls are not looking as great as it could have been. The very center of the city is mostly untouched though and you can still come and explore. If going in spring, be prepared for the temperature swings. I got a temperature drop from 28C to 3C within 2 days by the moment I got to Pingyao. It was even snowing at night.

Really love the hotel’s a**osphere. It is cool both scenery and weather. There aren’t much noice and people around the hotel, a little walk and you will reach some of the tourist’s attraction. Some employees can speak english or if not, wechat is the best help. They also booked taxi and drop us off by the taxi, the service was wonderful. Will stay here again if there’s a chance of visiting.

The ancient city Pingyao and the Yundingxuan hotel blowed our mind. The hotel provide free pickup from the train station. We took the high speed train arrived at Pingyaocheng station which is around 15 minutes away from the ancient city. When you enter the city wall gate, you will be amazed of the narrow streets and cobblestone road. Picked Yundingxuan hotel because it was closed to the North gate so If the taxi was to dropped us off it’ll be a short walk but the driver dropped us off near the hotel because cars are not allowed within the main streets. The hotel is closed to 200 years old and have characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I was born in Vietnam, With roots to China but raised up in the US since I was 7 years old. I’ve seen Chinese movies but nothing will prepare you to the hotel and the ancient city. I was surprised how big the hotel complex was. All the staff were very nice, the main host spoke English, and the breakfasts were traditional Chinese breakfast. We stayed two nights and we felt safe throughout our visit. My wife and daughter appreciated the three hotel cats and all the felines throughout the city. I’m sure the other hotels are fantastic and will give your a unique experience but I can vouch for Yundingxuan. Just be prepared to get out your comfort zone but be amazed by the visual and taste of Pingyao Ancient City.

You can't drive into the ancient city, firstly because there are too many people, and secondly because the ancient city is full of small roads. When you arrive at Xiaonanmen, the hotel will send a sightseeing bus to pick you up, and you will be sent to Xiaonanmen after you check out. The front desk service is very enthusiastic, and basic needs can be met. For a small county town, Pingyao Xinghuiguan is a very large hotel. We booked a duplex family room with a large platform. The children added a quilt and rolled on it very happily. The front desk gave them handmade vinegar before leaving.

The room is not big, but it is very unique. It is a renovation of a historical building. The main thing is to feel the stay. The hotel is in the scenic area. The car needs to be parked in the large parking lot. If you don't have much luggage, you can walk to the hotel. If you have luggage, the hotel will send a small electric donkey to pick it up. I would like to mention the hotel's restaurant in particular. The decoration and dishes are very unique. It is a rare meal.

During the Chinese New Year, the electric car cannot pick up and drop off, but the driver will come to the Lower East Gate to help with luggage. The house is on the edge of the ancient city, a little off, but it is quieter away from the street. The construction of the ancient city is still a long-term development road, and many surrounding buildings need to be repaired. The house is very retro, with three courtyards and guest rooms upstairs and downstairs. Breakfast can be delivered to the room. We live on the first floor. Due to the lack of sound insulation in the ancient building, the guests upstairs can be heard clearly downstairs. There is also a rubbing experience on the second floor of the front desk. The environment here is pretty good. The boss is also very polite. The key is to be familiar with the environment. I know everything you ask. It can save a lot of trouble.

I never comment, except this time. The hotel service is really good. They sent a car to pick us up from the station. Cars are not allowed to enter the ancient city. There was also a clerk waiting at the parking spot to pick us up and take us to the hotel. They will give suggestions for sightseeing, eating and transportation, which are sincere and detailed. When we left, we arranged a drop-off at the station. Our schedule was somewhat delayed. There was someone waiting at the hotel to take us to the station outside the ancient city. In short, we could feel the care for the guests staying in the hotel. The room is very clean and the layout is very warm. There is a main street outside the store and there are many people, but the small courtyard is very quiet and comfortable. I am very satisfied with this trip to Pingyao. This has a lot to do with the hotel. This is the second time I have come to Pingyao. I will come again in the future and I will choose this hotel again.

Trip did NOT indicate that hotel provides free shuttle to and from airport and train station. We went through some problems to get through to the hotel and request shuttle from east gate as the taxi is not allowed to enter the old city. The shuttle together with the receptionist promptly showed up and fetch us right on the dot at the gate. Wendy was exceptionally helpful; lugged our suitcase and showed us our room. On check out, arranged from shuttle to send us to the train station, waved goodbye and saw us off.

Parking is convenient and convenient without charge, and the best choice for more luggage. If you live in the ancient city, you need to park your car in the parking lot of the visitor center, and walk in with big bags. This is in the parking lot of the north gate visitor center of the ancient city, and the gate is out. The car enters from the back door. There are not many types of breakfast, the taste is average, but it is better than breakfast, and it is troublesome to go out to eat. The hotel on the edge of the scenic spot is already very good, after all, it is a small county. The overall surrounding price is good.
