Being 15 mins walk this was cheaper than many of the seafront hotels. The grounds and pool are were good and felt like a 4 star resort, well maintained, clean. Friendly helpful reception. Good atmosphere. 2 big pools, one quiet one near the French music. Predominant French and all the entertainment is in French. I speak French and went to one of the evening ‘spectacles’. Most people in the room were rolling around in laughter; the ‘comedy’ was not to my taste though! My room was very spacious and had lots of potential but IMHO was let down being an interior design disaster: so bare with a cheap tatty melamine faced furniture. It was so bare it looked like someone had taken the furniture. I didn’t eat at the restaurant but had bright harsh lighting reminding me more of a motorway cafe. As a base to explore the island it was great. It’s near to the best beaches on the island - playa del Papagayo. Hire a car for 30 euro per day. Go there and explore the island. It’s really grown on me….

Disappointing, could be so much better. Certainly don’t do the All Inclusive. When we arrived we were happy with our room on ground level around the zen pool. Nice looking buildings and pool area. Zen pool area is the quietest. We had a junior suite and the room itself was basic but absolutely spotless and the beds were really comfy. Although on day 4 a drains smell started to arise in the bathroom. Thankfully we were leaving the next day but I fear this would have been a problem if we were staying longer. Unfortunately all the pools including the children’s pools were ice cold. They really were unbearable. I struggled to get in the pool myself and when I tried to take my 2year old in she shrieked and burst into tears upon entering with shock as it was so cold. Needless to say that was the pool ruled out after 20 seconds on day 1. At least have the small children’s pools heated, that’s not a lot to ask in February when it’s a family resort. The bar at the zen pool was closed the whole time we were there so we had to shlep down to the main pool area to get a drink during the day. This was a pain. As for the drinks… beers were ok but the white rum tasted like coffee and the cocktails were rank. The Coke was also flat the whole time we were there ! The food was dire. One big canteen with food that was barely edible. I even struggled at breakfast to find something half decent. Our daughter has a cows milk allergy and practically everything they put out had cows milk in it. We were all inclusive so this was really, really disappointing. We’ve stayed in 4* AI before and this is defo no where near 4* . Unfortunately we won’t back to this hotel.

We arrived here as waifs from a big storm, unable to get home for three days because public transport to North Devon was not running. But we had a lovely experience at this character hotel and restaurant. It was the opposite of the cheap chains (although they have their place, of course) with a quirky, wonderfully comfortable and well-equipped room, a bed to die for in terms of sleep comfort, a great big TV, and lots of little touches that made it a good place to hole up in. Excellent food at the cosy restaurant, and they fitted us in despite having a couple of giant Christmas parties on. Most of all though, it was the people who made our experience - every single person was warm, welcoming, clearly well-trained and went the extra mile to look after us,. The only warning I would give is that the stairs are narrow and there is no lift. That is obviously part of the nature of the old building, and the restaurant is on the ground floor, but if you have mobility issues you need to ask if they have accessible rooms for staying in.

The THB Royal offers exactly what it says on the tin. The junior suites offer the benefit of a longe area (with sofa bed) and a second TV. This hotel caters almost totally for French guests as is the entertainment etc. The quietest area is at the rear of the property beside the second and slightly smaller pool. The hotel is clean and tidy with daily maid service. It is a 10 walk to Playa Dorada, then turn left for the Rubicon Marina with its up market shops or right for Playa Blanca. It’s a pleasant 10 minute walk either way. This was our 2nd visit in 2 years, we go for board only as we prefer to have lunch or dinner in the town. The hotel is excellent value for money

Positives: -Gardens & pools are fab. -Maintenance & cleaning team work very hard. -Pools great but very cold (end Oct & thought pools should be heated) -Snack bar good value -Playa Blanca is very pretty and the Marina is beautiful - Free shuttle bus at 10am & 3pm to Dorada Beach where all the main shops & restaurants are. Negatives: -Hotel is too far from main resort area, it’s at least a 20 minute walk just to the front before walking to bars/restaurants and at least a 30 min walk to the mariner if you have small children or elderly it’s not pleasant in the heat. This is going from the back gate which is supposed to be quicker! -Hotel reception do not tell you about the free shuttle bus or the key for back gate and are quite miserable. -Stayed sc but struggled with kitchen facilities. - Only one socket in kitchen area - Eve entertainment awful and ruined what could’ve been a good holiday. The Resort: -Very pretty and the Mariner is beautiful -Lanis, The Bikers, The Harp & O’Connors had the friendliest staff & the best service. -We ate in a lot of places but found the staff unfriendly & very slow. -Maybe they don’t like the English - that was the impression we got. -The resort is perfect for older couples but not families. - We would return but we would stay nearer the front and would go as a couple.

The resort itself is extremely pleasant although about 20 minutes from the beach. Not a real issue for me as I enjoy roaming around and finding my own way around town. Rooms are clean and spacious with maids coming round every day, beds were comfortable and rooms have a small fridge for those extras if you need it. My only grumbles are that the hotel is mainly a french resort with reps going round daily from around 11am which can be some what noisy if you want a relaxing holiday. Also the all inclusive breakfast was mediocre to say the least. Hot food was only luke warm, sausages were cocktail size and not very pleasant, bacon average and the scrambled egg was rotten/rancid two days on the trot. Had to put it on a separate plate to one side as even just the smell was awful......on a plus note the dinner menu made up for it. Overall I enjoyed my stay but would probably just do a self catering trip if I was to visit again as there are some lovely restaurants around town and the views of/from the beach were lovely.

This is a really lovely hotel, positioned on the eastern side of Playa Blanca and very convenient for the beautiful beaches at Papagayo and for main roads to other parts of the island. It's around 15 minutes walk to the town centre by the main road or (best route) along the prom from Playa Dorada and there are supermarkets nearby. The site is well laid out and planted with mature ficus and palm trees (at dusk every day tiny birds came to sing in the tree overhanging my balcony). The rooms are large, unfussy and spotlessly clean and have private terraces or balconies. The are staff mostly very friendly, particularly the younger receptionists who are excellent - and trilingual in French, Spanish and English. Other reviews mentioned the noise from the entertainment, so I sent a message to the hotel asking for a quiet room. I was placed in the 'Zen Zone', on the first floor away from the busy areas overlooking the quieter of the two pools and was very happy. The entertainment ends by 23:00 in any case. One review mentions holiday reps 'coming round' but I was left entirely alone and nobody came to the door during my stay except the lovely housekeeping team. The hotel is very popular with French families (no Brits at all) and the atmosphere is very friendly and civilised. No loud room parties or drunken staggering about late at night. friendly. There is a smart cafeteria serving meals on site but I booked room-only through Zen Hotels and got a very good rate. There's a kettle and fridge in the room and lots of great places to eat catering for all tastes in and around Playa Blanca. I hired a car from Payless and they delivered and collected the car to/from the hotel. The weather wasn't entirely brilliant during my stay but I was happy to be at the hotel or driving around the island sight-seeing. Will definitely return to the Royal.

Was there from 22nd to 29th Feb. No problems with the hotel at all. Room was fine, Food was among the best I've had on an All Inclusive. Pool Area was good, plenty of Sunbeds and kept clean, all staff Friendly and polite at all times. The only downside was ALL the Entertainment was in French Would I return, No. But, this isn't The area of Lanzarote I liked. I much prefer PDC, Far much more to offer than Playa Blanca. Not the hotels fault at all. Thank you all at TBH Royal for making me feel Welcome.
