The Stag Head Hotel

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING STAFF FRIENDLY VERY WELCOMING I THINK THE FEMALE BAR PERSON LOUISE WAS VERY NICE IN FACT EXCELLENT WILL BE BACK JUST TO TRY THINGS THEY SELL BEHIN THE BAR MISSED OUT ON THE STEAK PIE BUT GAD BEFORE VERY RECOMMENDED OH DID I SAY AMAZING

Nice and relaxed atmosphere, easy to communicate with the staff. Very good view to the Forth railroad bridge from the room. Good to retire to this quiet place after a long day in Edinbourgh. The hotel pub is a good place to meet locals. Now for thigs that could improve. I have used this hotel before and the impression from this visit is that it has somewhat faded. With the new owners things look a bit more worn. The the wifi was temporarily out of function, and because the area has a bad coverage of mobile data it caused some nuisance for us. The thing I really missed was the good breakfast they used to serve in the breakfast room, and that gave us a good start for the day. Now there is no brekfast served anymore.

Lovely place to stay. We stayed in the Deluxe room and loved it , crackin view. The hotel is next to the pub which is really nice , good selection of alcohol. Staff are really nice and friendly, as are the locals. Also, it is a good jump of point for the other local eateries and drinking establishments. Also had live music on when we stayed . Has parking at the back.

On arrival we were told that we were unable to park in the blocked car park at the back of the hotel (see picture). This despite the fact that on Trip Advisor, this hotel is advertised as having a guest car park. We complained o no avail and when we asked to talk to the manager, we were told that he would be unlikely to change his mind. We are a older couple who consequently had to park about 10/15mins away from the hotel and humpf our gear all the way to the hotel. Although the bed was comfortable, the room itself was cold and therefore the view from the window in the morning was basically blurred by the condensation. Minimum toilet paper left in the room (one third and one half a roll). And ATTENTION, the hotel does NOT do breakfast. This hotel is NOT value for money.

The room was ok, bed was clean and comfortable, but unfortunately the room was so cold, heating was obviously run by the property as we tried to turn it up, the bathroom was even worse no heating at all, there was a radiator but didn't come on, shower was good. During the night I couldn't sleep as the room was so cold . Tv wouldn't work either. When we arrived we asked about food and were told that we could order up to 6.30pm we went down at 5pm only to be told that the kitchen was now closed, so therefore had to go out to find somewhere to eat. It was £117 for a night without breakfast, we definitely would not recommend this hotel, far to cold especially with the wind and rain howling through the windows all night.

Stayed 3 nights with my (adult-age) son for our visits to the Open Golf at St Andrews. Very comfortable stay. A big THANK YOU to the hotel owner who very kindly posted a jacket back to me that I’d accidentally left behind in our room.
