I stayed at this hotel for two nights with my partner, and overall, our experience was rather underwhelming.
The room was very small — so much so that we couldn’t even sit together at a table to have a meal. Despite booking a mountain view room, what we got was a small window with barely any view at all. The room also didn’t feel particularly clean, which added to our disappointment.
What really left a negative impression, though, was the interaction at checkout on the morning of the 14th. I simply asked the front desk about the refund of our deposit and used the word “refund”. The staff clearly understood what we were asking — as did we — but instead of just answering the question, they chose to correct our word usage in a rather condescending tone, as if we were in an English class.
It was entirely unnecessary. We were using clear and understandable English, and our request was obvious. Yet the staff, as native speakers, decided to focus on our choice of words rather than the actual question. Even after we clarified and said “refund of the deposit,” they continued to fixate on that one term. It felt dismissive and patronising.
This isn’t the kind of attitude one expects in hospitality. A helpful, understanding approach would have been far more appropriate than turning a simple question into a language lesson.
