Walkerbouts Inn Rhodes

My husband and I with our 11 yr old son, stayed 2 nights here and would definitely recommend this hotel & be back again in the future. From the moment I booked, the efficient communication and friendliness from the hosts were unquestionable. So accommodating in our requests. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The staff were friendly & helpful. The hosts were chatty, funny and we loved to hear their stories. The room we stayed in was large & spacious, as well as clean. We all slept very well. The hotel itself - although old - has been well maintained and you can feel the love and care that has gone into it over the years. The bar is cosy. The Table Tennis was well enjoyed and prove a great space to meet other guests and have some fun. The little garden is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the beautiful views. It's a short walk into the small town of Rhodes, which is convenient. Word of Advice: We followed the quicker route (time-wise) on Google Maps to get there - which took us over the Naude's Nek Pass. Spectacular views from this drive - which we loved and would recommend doing when in Rhodes - it is a more 'bumpy' and offroad ride. So ultimately, it took us longer to get there. Take the other (longer) route, which is a less 'bumpy' road. We came back from Rhodes on this 'longer' road.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that immediately made us feel at home. The surroundings are simply breathtaking – the perfect mix of serene mountain beauty and rustic charm. The large, comfortable rooms were a highlight, offering everything needed for a restful stay. After days spent exploring the area, it was wonderful to return to such a relaxing and inviting space. The service here is impeccable – attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The food deserves a special mention as well: hearty, delicious meals that perfectly complemented the homely atmosphere. And don’t miss out on spending an evening in the bar! Its unique, cosy vibe and character-filled decor made for some truly memorable moments. Walkerbouts offers a little bit of everything: comfort, charm, and an authentic South African experience. We can’t wait to return and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway with great food, fantastic service, and stunning surroundings.

We stayed in Ash Cottage which is hosted by the Inn. Cottage was perfectly acceptable, but the gas bottles for the heaters were not. One was completely empty. The other lasted less that 2 hours. We requested more gas at the Inn & were told a flay NO. Management at the Inn was not the best. Very much felt that they thought they were doing us a big favour by allowing us to be there. Food at the Inn was not good. No choice. Only pizza on offer & that was not freshly made. Couldn't recommend.

Although we stayed at another selfcatering facility in Rhodes during our visit to this exeptional beautiful part of South Africa, we asked around for a restaurant that serve Trout. Trout fishing is one of the main attractions for the region. We ended up at Walkerbouths Inn and met the legend Dave Walker himself. Although Trout is not standard on their meal menus, he immidiately agreed to prepare Trout for Dinner. Dinner was indeed prepared in person by Dave while we relaced in the lounge with some good reads. A very special dish was prepared indeed. This was without doubt the best Trout I ever had. I ended my meal with a traditional Malva poeding which again was made superbly. If ever in Rhodes, a dinner at Walkerbouts Inn (if not staying there) is highly recommended.
