We stayed here on a motorcycling trip across Wales. What a lovely family run place. The building is old and lovely. The bar and restaurant are cosy and there are great beers on tap. The food was excellent. All home cooked. And we thought it was great value. Don’t expect state of the art rooms as the building is listed. B it you can expect charm and a lovely welcome by the really nice people who run it.

First room had a dried up slug behind the bathroom door, asked to move so got given a family riom(was told not one available a couple of weeks before) this was better. Had booked 2 rooms but just used the one , still charged for 2 though , it wasn't my fault the first hadn't been checked . Very dark dangerous stairs to get in and of the building at night . We didn't shower as silverfish crawling in there .

We booked the rhymney for 2 nights in a tripple room for ourselves and our 9 year old grandson. On arrival at almost 6pm and travelling for hours we were told we had to have evening meal straight away as the person doing food had to go. We didnt want to eat on arrival, so missed out on an evening meal. Tony the landlird was very friendly. Only good thing sbout the rhymnet. He took us to our room at the very top, then informwd us there was no hit water and no heating. He gave us an electric heater which did warm the room up. He told us the shower was electric so we would get hot water. What a waste of time the shower was. No pressure what so ever. The shower tray was filthy and black mould. The whole bathroom was dirty. The room itself very basic and very very dirty with only a kettle, nowhere to hang clothes, dirty knickers from a previous guest under the bed. The following morning we went down for breskfast, only to find a dog in the dinning room. I understand its a pet friendly hotel, but it wouud be nice to seperate dogs from food. Our grandson is terrified of dogs, so we didnt get breakfast that morning either. We went back to our room packed up and left. We paid £150 For a dirty room for 1 night

Avoid. Very shabby. Carpets have soft bits which make me wonder about the floors. Strange layouts. Eg bed in alcove so I had to clamber over the end to get in. I’m a disabled pensioner ! No drawers , no wardrobe only a few hangers over the tea table. Most women wouldn’t reach it ! No toiletries. When I asked , they looked surprised! Everything dated , shabby , Clean but scruffy. Food was cheap but mediocre. Fast food. Nb chips undercooked.it’s a very rough poor area. The bar was full of old miners and families at night. Didn’t make me feel comfortable! Best I can say is cheap and I didn’t get fleas. If I’d gone with a lady I’d have run away. I can’t see it hanging on much longer. It’s run on a shoestring! Poor staff training. Tbh most didn’t look like hotel staff! Go look at a good hotel. Smart , bright , attractive uniformed young people! The area is ghastly. Very tough and scruffy. I’ve never seen so many tattooed middle aged women ! Stay in a better place somewhere like crickhowell or Brecon maybe. There must be holiday inns or best western that are cheap. The step at the bottom of the stairs , despite a sign , was lethal !!the whole place, even the rutted and potholed car park, needs rebuilding. If you are satisfied with this place , you must have incredibly low standards. Trouble is, we don’t complain in Britain. We let them get away with this. Ok it was £40 B&B , but I still expect more than this !! It is handy for the A465 which is the best I can say. It’s good if you want to see a lot of alcoholics. There’s no restaurants in rhymney. A few in Tredegar but it’s like the Wild West. No. No . No.

We stayed for two nights and had breakfast and evening meals. Amazing menu - from standard chicken and chips to more exotic venison steaks. The staff at this family-run hotel really went out of their way to ensure we had a happy and comfortable stay. We hope to visit again in the not-too-distant future!

A very welcoming, clean and comfortable place to stay with friendly and accommodating staff. The range and quality of food was incredible (venison, rabbit, several kinds of fish etc. as well as a huge bar menu) and we were shocked by how reasonable the price was!

Found this lovely Inn/hotel for a night's stay near Abergavenny. Ann and Tony were super friendly and the whole place has a lovely homely feel. Someone on *********** said the rooms were 'tired' - well perhaps but I'd prefer to say they have an old charm, a little faded at the corners maybe. If you like spanking new, this is not for you - but it was all genuine, everything was comfortable and clean and we had a really good night's sleep. What really stood out, apart from the friendliness and warmth was the menu. I'm veggie, my daughter is vegan, and my partner is a whole mixture! And there was a truly extensive menu for all of us. Extraordinary in a pub setting. A lot of the dishes were traditional pub fare, but with a load of vegan options - and all home cooked. Wonderful - and really delicious!
