Overall a relaxing stay in beautiful grounds. Our room looked onto the garden near the spa and we saw a deer, rabbits and birds. The buildings and grounds were clean and the location peaceful. The spa staff were professional and engaging. The only things to note are that use of the spa is an additional cost and one of the 4 heated loungers seems to have been broken for some time. The brasserie/bar was the let down in terms of service. Although polite, the few staff serving were inexperienced and only able to deal with one thing at a time. For example the breakfast area on both days was lacking in juice, bowls and pastries. Staff would disappear when asked by guests to go find bowls, but not take note of the other things needed so then have to disappear again. Our breakfast orders didn't get to the kitchen, and once 2 others tables had been served before us we had to get up and ask. Again, a sign of inattentiveness, and then they brought just one of our 2 orders, so another 10 minute wait. There were only 6 tables altogether in service and 5 had issues. The breakfast itself was nice. The evening meal was similar. We had to wait for staff to greet us and the service was very basic, no wine list offered, the draft lager needed changing so only bottles. We were not offered tea/coffee etc, so in the end we ate and left. It felt like the staff had somewhere else to be (perhaps at the big wedding in the grounds?) On the second night we went to a local pub. The prices were the same, but we were welcomed, asked a bit about our visit, and ourselves and checked on throughout our visit to see that everything was okay and when our drinks were low, offered refills. It's is sad to see a bar and restaurant in such peaceful and beautiful grounds so empty 😞 hopefully an easy fix that would make all the difference.
