Hotel les Hautes Roches

Excellent staff, professional friendly service. Great food and great wine list. Not sure about our cave room. The bed was also very hard. The room was enormous but wasn't cosy and the furnishings didn't really help. There was also no shower. We would go back and enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is excellent in most respects. Convenient to many of the best chateaus. The staff is great - helpful, welcoming and professional. Ample free parking, small but decent pool. And two very good restaurants. The Gourmet restaurant, in a beautiful room, has a fine menu of appealing dishes, and provides a few amuse bouches. All at a reasonable price for its kind. The wine list is superb, with many fine local wines offered, and also fairly priced. The Bistro also is very good, with different tasty dishes, and the same fine wine list. Outdoor dining was pleasant. It was all 5-star quality, except our room. It was very large, but the furniture seemed to be for a much smaller room. Watching TV was a stretch from any chair and impossible from the bed. The bathroom had no shower, save a handheld one from the tub, which we found inconvenient to use. The hair dryer had very little power. We had room #1, and perhaps others were better.

It was a Relais&Chateau gift voucher that enabled us to stay at this renowned hotel. Unfortunately, not all our expectations were met. After 550 km of driving and arriving at 4pm as recommended, we had to wait in a draughty thoroughfare. Our room was not ready. When we arrived in our magnificent troglodyte room, we had to turn up the heat to get the temperature just right. In the evening, we enjoyed an excellent meal in the on-site restaurant. Refined dishes, underlined by excellent cuisine. It has to be said that the staff are very dedicated. Despite being very young, they do their utmost to satisfy the customer. Despite the minor inconveniences at the start, we spent an excellent night in a dream room with a quality bed. To sum up, this establishment is in the top half of the ranking (8/10). There are a number of areas for improvement (maintenance: cleaning of terraces, flies in rooms, etc.).

We specifically chose to stay here because we were looking for troglodyte rooms, or rooms built into cave systems, and Les Hautes Roches (High Rocks) offered a great selection. Perched on high rocks, thus the name, above the Loire River the location is naturally beautiful and memorable in of itself. The hotel building looks like an elegant old mansion on a hill and was beautiful inside. The restaurants and bar were elegant with friendly staff and lively evening scene. We had one of the largest, if not the largest cave room and it was HUGE with beautiful views of the Loire River down below. No AC in the troglodyte rooms but it's not really needed since they're naturally cool but fans are available upon request. Comfortable bed, big bathroom with separate tub and shower, separate couch and chairs, and plenty of open space. Only downside is the location is not in a town so a car is needed to go anywhere unless you want to walk 15 minutes to the small town of Rochecorbon. Tours is within 15 minutes to the west and Amboise is within 15 minutes to the east so you're right in the middle of two large towns. If you're wanting to explore east Loire Valley and west Loire Valley this is a good middle location; it's just not in a populated town with many restaurants in walking distance. I would stay here again for the Troglodyte rooms.

We stayed there for three nights at the end of September. The room was unique, inside a mountain cave, yet very ample, quiet, warm , comfortable. We accessed the room by stairs, however they offered rooms accessible by elevator, as well. But the stars of the stay were the people working there and their two restaurants. The Gastronomique Restaurant deserves *** Michelin stars: I can’t express our experiences there in words, you have to try for yourself. The dinner at the Bistro is great too. The value for the food is amazing considering the quality and the service. This is a hidden gem that I hope doesn’t get spoiled by fame and hordes of bus tours. Thank you for the hospitality!

If you are in this region, stay in the troglodyte hotel. Staff are efficient, hotel is beautifully positioned over looking the Loire. Very relaxing after a day of sight seeing.
