Where do I start? This hotel is wonderful, so beautiful and charming. I have been staying in lots of different hotels for a total of 3 weeks now because of some repairs being done to my house and this one blew the others out of the water. I called the day before I was due to arrive and spoke to Ian (assistant manager), I explained to him that my son has asthma and that I would prefer a room that did not allow pets. Ian spoke me through my options and advised me accordingly, I paid £20 extra and was allocated a room that didn’t only meet mine and my son’s needs but went beyond our expectations. When I arrived at the hotel I was blown away by the beauty of the building, the hotels I’d stayed in prior to this one (Travelodge included) didn’t have a fraction of as much character. Ian greeted me on arrival, spoke me through our dinner options and so on and gave me my keys. We went straight to our room to unpack, it was airy, clean, had all the hotel comforts you would expect and the view was wonderful. We then went down to have some dinner, Ian was brilliant again and went and got my son a highchair from the back so he’d have somewhere secure to sit and eat and the food was great. The lady bringing the food out was very friendly, she made sure that our empty plates were taken quickly and that the following course was brought out in great time. I also witnessed her providing the same great service to other guests who were eating in the restaurant area. We then went up to bed, it was quiet during the night and the beds were well presented and comfortable. I had seen some reviews prior to my stay and was sceptical about the hotel and what it would be like. People had written about creaking floorboards and damage to walls and so on but that is to be expected when staying in a building that is old and has so many stories to tell! None of the hotel was unclean and despite its age it was actually in very good shape. Before leaving I asked to speak to Ian to let him know how much I appreciated his help, I also spoke to the hotel manager who was lovely and touched by my appreciation of the service I received from all of the staff and for the actual building itself. I am not local to Tunbridge Wells but I will definitely visit this hotel again in the near future, I would advise everyone else to do so too!

The worst place to stay, the whole place was cricking, the toilet was dirty, plus the room was freezing cold. No phone in the room so had to go downstairs to ask for someone to turn heating but no one turned up

Arrived, moved room as 317 very smelly, moved to 301 next to lift. Smelt much fresher, bed lovely clean and fresh. Bathroom peeling paint, only 2 towels, dirty taps and shower hose. Mould appearing. Toilet needed 5 flushes. No glass/ cups for bathroom. No hairdryer in room. Radiator needs bleeding. Receptionist very nice. Very dated old hotel, peeling walls and ceilings. Very creaky floorboards. Stained surfaces in room. Damaged furniture in room, scratched and scuffed. No bathmat, no hair towels.

Staff are amazing, breakfast area is normal Travel Lodge, But the rooms, I've stayed in better places in Hostels, no phone to reception, one small radiator that wasn't on, with the bathroom area / toilet area , would have been closer to go to a Weatherspoon's toilet, and that area didn't have any heating, so unless this room isn't used in winter? I don't think any floorboards where fixed down due to all the creaking, towels weren't changed (I know first world problems). The shower was a looney Toons joke, boiling hot then freezing cold, luke warm then freezing cold, The carpark is a lottery, don't buy a 24hr ticket unless you plan on leaving your car there, because if you go out and come back, you're not guaranteed a place, I won't be staying here again, I'd rather buy a tent and camp.

Lift not working, overpriced bar, slow service, tight on tea & coffee in room, new mattress required, sunk in centre, felt like sleeping on a slope. Sound proofing not good. Very squeaky floorboards. Positives, all very clean.

My first experience at a Travelodge Hotel. Grand facade in a convenient location but needs a lot of TLC, as it is very tired and run down. Front of house staff well hidden and house keeping not up to scratch. My room was large with a double bed and 2 singles. Clean fresh linen and towels. Wi-Fi connection an extra charge in a time when all communication relies on it. The bathroom was awful. Buffet style breakfast (extra charge) - served in a large characterless room - is good with a wide variety of options to choose from. However, half the light bulbs on the chandelier were burnt out. Off road parking available - at an extra charge. For me it had an aura of an asylum rather than that of a hotel. A pity, as it has so much potential.

Lovely stay! Staff couldn’t be more helpful, I was very impressed by them. Obviously the hotel has its quirks being a listed building but had a lovely charm. Could do with a little TLC in some areas but certain areas likely can’t be renovated. Stayed in room 316, lovely large room. Very clean, clean towels etc. Only downside was the balcony door didn’t close properly but it was so warm during my stay it was nice to leave it open. A fan was also provided in the room. Had a few issues with my room key, likely my fault from having it near my phone/car keys in my bag. So pre warning if you do the same you may need to pop down to reception to get it reset but staff were also happy to help. Parking is very limited, I was recommended to arrive before check in and there were a fair few spaces. I wasn’t planning to move my car during my stay but of an evening there were no spaces left. Bar was nice to enjoy some drinks, reasonable prices for a hotel. You could also get extra tea and coffee for your room from the bar so you could get as much as you wanted. Breakfast was nice and fresh, we arrived as it opened. Nice selection, would have been nice to have a decaf tea option but otherwise lots of items available.

Hotel is old and dirty. Room was noisy. Could hear every time to toilet was flushed in rooms above. Paint was dirty and flaking off window ledges. Windows would not open and close properly. Lift not working after we came back in the evening. My mum has knee problems and it was so painful for her to get back to our rooms up on the 2nd floor. Would not recommend staying here at all.
