We really enjoyed our stay at Saltcote. Our room was enormous, with a lovely view and an equally enormous bathroom, both full of elaborate ornaments. The house (or rather mansion) is quiet and secluded, and only a 15 minute walk into Rye. We got a very friendly welcome including a glass of wine from Paul. We could choose from a wide variety of alcoholic beverages as a nightcap. It was then left outside our room on a silver tray. Breakfast was a highlight: fresh fruit, anything from many varieties and sizes of eggs benedict with homemade hollandaise to a full English, plus orange juice, buck's fizz or straight sparkling wine. Everything was beautifully presented. Paul and Alan are both very friendly, helpful and entertaining. Paul has a fund of stories. We stayed 3 nights and spent our 2 days exploring Rye and the interesting Lamb House, walking across Dungeness and visiting historic Winchelsea. There are some excellent restaurants in Rye. It was a wonderful break.

The most wonderful trip. After disappointment of a cancelled holiday abroad, Saltcote was booked as a last minute staycation. Paul and Alan were wonderful, getting in contact almost immediately after we booked to ensure that we had the information we needed and providing recommendations for dinner etc and accommodating our request of a room with a bath. The house itself if beautiful, and the Royal Military Suite has amazing views. The bed was comfortable and we had everything we needed. The location is perfect for walking into Rye and car parking is safe and secure. Paul and Alan are wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are amazing, and pescatarian and vegetarian options are catered to without fuss. It was great to chat over breakfast with both Paul and Alan, and learn more about the house and their time running Saltcote. We hope we have the opportunity to stay again. The stay was exactly what we needed.

We stayed here for our Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration. Everything was just perfect, very clean and comfortable. We were made to feel so welcome by Paul and Alan. The breakfasts were excellent and very filling. We cannot recommend Saltcote Place high enough for a relaxing and peaceful place to stay. A real dream.

One word…Perfection. Alan and Paul are the perfect hosts, warm, welcoming, friendly, accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. All the little touches and attention to detail were evident from the moment we arrived . We were welcomed with a lovely glass or two of wine before being shown to our room, which was beautifully presented. Not a speck of dirt or dust anywhere and the views were incredible both from the room itself and the adjoining bathroom. The four poster bed was Devine, like sleeping on a bed of feathers, so roomy and comfortable, with a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge ready for us to enjoy at our leisure. We ventured into Rye for the evening, which is no more than a 10 minute walk away and full of bistros, pubs and a variety of restaurants, we can recommend a visit to Webb’s fish cafe, delicious. On returning to our room each evening we had a very welcome nightcap waiting for us to enjoy and a breakfast selection form to complete ready for the morning. The breakfast choice was amazing. Paul was there greeting us each morning with a glass of bubbles to start the day, while Alan was cooking our breakfast with perfect poached eggs. We didn’t feel rushed at any point and both Paul and Alan were so very generous with their time, local knowledge and life experiences. It was a pleasure to sit down to breakfast with them both. If you are looking for that magical escape with beautiful views, peace and quite but near enough to Rye ,that you won’t have to worry about driving and parking, please do yourself a favour and book into Saltcote Place Rye, you won’t regret it. Worth every penny.

We had a lovely weekend stay here in August as the perfect ‘kids are with the grandparents’ retreat. The house and grounds are absolutely stunning and the Amberley Suite with its four-poster bed, huge bathroom and powerful shower did not disappoint. Paul and Alan are excellent hosts and the nightcaps and breakfast were wonderful. We were seated with two other couples at breakfast, which would usually be something I would recoil from, as I am so far from being a morning person, but everyone was lovely and the conversation flowed easily, helped along no doubt by the bubbles, and it was a valuable opportunity to hear from them and our hosts about places to visit in the area. Hugs all round when we left! Thank you so much Paul and Alan for a great break x

My daughter and I came to Saltcote as a special treat for her birthday and we had a wonderful stay. Paul was so welcoming and made us a pot of tea on arrival ( we could have had fizz too)! He spent time chatting to us and gave us many tips for the local area as he seems to know everyone in Rye! The room was lovely and they set up the adjoining room to the suite so we could each have some privacy. Breakfast was a delight with Bucks Fizz, an extensive menu to choose from and entertaining conversation with both Paul and his equally lovely partner Alan - all in the setting of the beautifully decorated dining room. Saltcote really is one of a kind and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thank you to Paul and Alan for such a wonderful stay. Possibly the most beautiful residence in Rye and the most charming company. They pay such attention to detail, from a glass of wine on your arrival to discuss your stay, to a fabulous breakfast menu. The breakfast is way above the standard of usual bed and breakfast accommodation. Alan’s hollandaise sauce is a must, and Paul’s offer of bubbles at breakfast helps to kickstart the relaxation! Everything is meticulously clean and the views from our room were spectacular. Perfect location to visit Rye, and in walking distance of Rye Harbour and Camber Sands. A wonderful break away.
