Superb service from initial enquiry via their website, right through to saying goodbye and thanking them for a great trip. Travelling with me/cfs can be a nightmare and I dread hotels with noisy bathroom fans, banging doors, loud extractor fans on kitchens, trips away can be disastrous, but the Red Lion at Hinxton was Bliss. We didnt hear a thing in our lovely room, away from the main building. I was over the moon. Our room was spotlessly clean, light & airy; the bed was enormous and very comfy; the shower was very powerful plus we had plenty of hot water for a lovely bath. The gardens are lovely, very peaceful with a beautiful wisteria pergola allowing privacy for some of the tables. There is plenty of parking in their car park and it is a very short, flat, walk to the rooms, so no stairs to manage. Our two dogs were made extremely welcome and the additional cost to take them was extremely reasonable compared to other hotels. All the rooms have a separate entrance straight into the garden, so there was no “walk of shame” through a hotel when one of them needed to go out. The pub itself is lovely, but the weather was too fab to waste it sat inside. We were delighted to find waiters service in the garden, and lovely touch from a very well run friendly establishment. The food was wonderful, as we hoped it would be when we saw the AA 4 Stars. We were able to access our room very early, and they very kindly allowed us a late checkout on our final day. All the staff showed us great kindness throughout. We highly recommend this great pub, it is very convenient for Duxford.

Our accommodation at The Red Lion was fabulous. We stayed in Room 1 for two nights and we couldn’t fault it. We had dinner on our first evening there, and Alex and the restaurant team delivered 100% Breakfast however is a different matter! Waiting team, although perfectly pleasant couldn’t put up a decent breakfast if they tried. After our second disastrous breakfast we actually wondered if the fast food chain restaurant up the road would have been a better option. This place needs a breakfast chef, and a waiting on breakfast team that can help justify the cost of just short of £300 for two nights. When you get a side plate with two poached eggs on it, and another side plate with your toast on it, you know you’ve either not been understood, or someone in the kitchen can’t put an egg on toast. Aside from the disappointment of breakfast, on both mornings, this place is great. We did speak to Alex, not to complain but to suggest some training may be needed, but after the second breakfast I think it needs more than that.

Went today! Couldn’t get out fast enough ! Shabby unclean. Pint of bit burger and a bottle of cider with one packet of cheese and onion crisps cost £14.00! Dearer than the O2 arena lol. Shame as just moved in local but won’t be back in a hurry!!!!!!!

Booked in advance as it gets busy especially on Sundays. Food very good offers nice menu. The staff very professional and attentive to our needs. Can be expensive with the combination of food and drink. Will call again as it has a nice setting.

Went in for a drink and food after a countryside walk. It is a large pub with several bars and a big restaurant area. The food was very good and there is an excellent range of beers on offer. Surroundings, food and service all top notch, couldn't wish for more from a meal out

Arrived in fantastic weather for an overnight stay whilst visiting the Imperial War museum. Nice reception cold glass in the garden . Shown to our clean room in the garden . Even got a visit from the friendly cat . £30 taxi ride into Cambridge. Upon returning at 9 pm on a Sat night , The pub ( showing football ) was totally deserted. We were the only customers!!! Nice place £28 for a bottle of wine expensive. No tea or coffee in the rooms . Breakfast very average. We would stop again but locals need to use it or lose it !

What a lovely welcome. Following a long drive we fancied a drink before checking in to The Holiday Inn next door. The gentleman at the bar was very jolly and chatty and after a bit of indecision from us he gave us time to sit at a table where we decided to eat. The food was great and all staff bent over backwards to be polite and ensure we were comfortable. Sadly we didn’t stay but will be back to try out the rooms. We stayed once before under old management but it’s clear to see positive improvements being carried out. Thank you.

We were looking forward to some rare roast beef for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, it was so rare it never arrived at our table! At 1.30pm we were informed that there had been a rush on rare beef and only beef well done was available. Disappointed, we opted instead for lamb - so long as it was cooked rare. What we got was medium to well done lamb. Doubly disappointing. Good service, lovely veg but poorly organised and executed.

Comfortable and quiet room, great breakfast and a delicious dinner. What more could you want. Thanks to Sam for looking after us so well. We will definitely be back. Apparently this review has to be 200 characters long so I will definitely recommend the pork belly….made it!
