After settling in at the caravan park ( which is fabulous caravan park we decided to go to lunch at one of the pubs in St George . We ended up at The Australian we were a bit early for lunch so we decided to have a drink the young girl who served us I don't think she wanted to be there. When lunch came out My Husband order a chicken dish which the chicken was over cooked ,dry,cold and lacking chicken My steak was beautiful cooked but cold butter would not melt in

Paid $168 for room with ensuite. The bed was horrible. The fact that you charge this much for a crappy mattress is just the worst. Call and check about the quality of beds before you book. Save yourself a backache. How in the world is this sorry excuse rated number 2 in Saint George by TripAdvisor?

Travelling around on a 3 week trip, on our way home we are calling into all of the beautiful little towns, spending money on accommodation, food and drinks supporting locals. We were looking forward to coming to The Australian Hotel as we had heard great things about it. Arrived to a lovely art deco building and came in for drinks. To be served by the rudest, I mean abhorrently rude woman behind the bar, so much so I said “hi, how are you going”? She said “what do you want” with a putrid scowl on her face. Stomped off got the drinks took the money and walked out of the bar. So dinner and drinks is now one drink and a do not return or recommend vote. On that, by the sounds of her accent she is a backpacker, if life here is that bad choose your other option.

We had dinner on two consecutive nights and the place was packed with tourists and locals. When locals patronise a local pub, it is good and we were not disappointed. The meals were all under $30 and were huge and very tasty. there is no way that you could ever go away from this pub hungry. We could not make a complaint about anything at all, even though it was packed it was not a long wait, the food was hot and plenty of it and very tasty.

The family had gotten different meals, all over priced for what it was. Overcooked steak and lamb cutlets with salads.all three lamb cutlets meat were 1 inch in width with a cost of $30 expecting it to be worth it. The steaks gravy was also watery.

There is not too much to do in St. George, but we stopped there to see the rodeo show! We booked our stay in the hotel through Agoda- which messed up our booking and we ended up with no accommodation upon arrival! The hotel staff was great and tried their best to sort out our situation as everything was booked out. Finally, we got the room in the motel instead, which was our win! The room was very cute, very clean and tidy, with a nice big picture on the wall (which I loved). Yes, it was noisy due to the bar next door- but who would not like sleeping with a nice music on? :) The hotel is just next to the river, which offers a nice long walk along it. We had a great stay and definitely would recommend!

During our week in St George we dined at Australian Hotel 3 times. I recommend the Supreme Vegetarian Pizza $28 and more than enough for 2 people. Sunday roast is $24 - lamb, verges, gravy. On Wednesday night there is Musical Bingo - fun and has prizes to win. This building is lovely art deco design right on the riverfront. The beer garden out back is cool. Great place!

Excellent food and service. We had lunch here and the food was so fresh and delicious. I had the Barra and chips with salad. Can’t believe the wonderful big helpings. My husband had pork and verges and also a big helping. Well done St George! Will visit again when in the area.
