We drove here with our dog, and it was a fantastic stay! The hotel is about a 10-minute drive from the town centre, but the scenery is stunning, and both breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious. The room was small but cosy, and they allow dogs for a very small extra fee, which was great. Every member of staff was incredibly friendly, and the food at the partner restaurant really impressed me—it even made me fall in love with British food all over again! For the price and experience, this trip felt absolutely perfect. I loved every moment of it!

Been a few times it’s lovely little lodge placed in an idyllic valley surrounded by beautiful meadows and mountains. Great place to rest before and after a long hike up to Raven Crag or the infinity pool. The accommodation was excellent for the price and the staff were friendly, they provided great service and great coffee.

I took my 9 month old and 3 year old boys here just before Halloween. It was such a lovely place to stay. The family room was amazing for us. Plenty of room for my eldest boy to play. The staff are great. Very friendly. Casey and Floria really stood out. So polite and very helpful. The cafe is lovely. We had the continental breakfast which was nice and a good choice for all of us. Before we checked into the room I asked for some bits to be put on the beds. Toy cars for my eldest and some chocolates for us all for watching a film in the evening. This was done without any issues before we checked into the room. Definitely will stay again.

Convenient and well priced for a comfy stay. Breakfast was a lovely selection of pastries, cereals. Fruit, toast, cheese, eggs etc. Coffee bar and cakes etc on site too. Breakfast was extra but not expensive. Knocked one star off because the heating was off in the breakfast room and it was cold, we kept our coats on throughout breakfast. We’ve been many times and this is the first time this has happened.

“After a crash I asked for a safe spot. The only thing locked up was kindness.” So let me share with you a Wednesday morning story. I was happily cycling along the lane which passes this establishment when mechanical failure resulted in me sliding down the road. Neither the bike nor I was in good shape. I realised that I had to get back to Ambleside and knew the local bus would not allow a bike on board, broken or not. What to do? I spied a cafe not far up the road. Perhaps they might have somewhere secluded round the back where I can lock and stash my previously trusty steed, whilst I catch the bus back to my car. I hobble into the empty reception. I have blood running down my leg and mud up my side. I pose that very question. The receptionist half looked at me and said matter-of-factly 'we don't offer that service here'. That was it. In my adrenaline fueled shell-shocked state I didn't know what to say and was like 'oh ok thanks' and retreated slowly out through the cafe. Clearly there is tonnes of space where I could have locked it up out back, I just felt more polite in asking. Afterall, that's what an English man does. I'm sure the food and beds here are lovely and everything but the Lodge in the Vale is evidently not a place I would recommend for cyclists. Or humans in need.

Stopped at the cafe after a long fellwalk. The waitress was polite but not particularly friendly. No smile, no "hello". Felt we weren't welcome. We had 3 hot drinks, 2 scones and a cake and we're shocked at the bill of over £25. Scones were £5 each (&that was without jam or cream), £4 each for very small cups of coffee. The quality was good but not reflective of the price
