Hotel des Abers

The breakfast buffet provides a wide variety of local specialties. The accommodation is conveniently located near amenities. Guests appreciate the comfortable, well-maintained rooms and the exceptional staff.

Hotel des Abers was the perfect place for our stay in Saint-Malo. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, and the breakfast was extensive. Kanel, the hotel mascot, absolutely won our hearts. The staff did an excellent job of recommending day outings, as well as evening dining suggestions.

I'm giving this hotel an average score because whilst it offers a very acceptable stay, there's nothing that elevates it beyond that. We booked a standard room as aside from the view there seemed little to differentiate the rooms (eg no balconies). It was nicely decorated. Not large but big enough. Comes with kettle and tea tray. Hotel location is good being closer to the ramparts that border the marina and the larger beach but also a square with some of the best restaurants. It's just far enough away from the main thoroughfare to be quiet at night. Two incidents put me off staying again. Firstly a pair of used man's pants were left on the bathroom floor. The room had clearly been cleaned so not sure why they were there. Quick apology from reception but she didn't seem surprised. Odd. Secondly the fire alarm went off at 3am. Given the hour, guests took their time getting out of their rooms and the lady on reception was fully dressed by the time we got downstairs. She was apologising for the false alarm which was still going off ( guest had been smoking inside). No one was checking that guests were accounted for when we arrived and there had been time to have let people know it was a false alarm before they left their rooms. Although the alarm was clearly not the hotels fault, there was also no acknowledgement or recompense that we had suffered a majorly disrupted nights sleep . As we were only there for that one night, it wasn't great. A free breakfast or small discount on a future stay would have been a nice gesture. It's the little things that make a hotel special and this one just didn't do that. The basics are fine here but there's nothing that goes the extra mile.
