I recently had the opportunity to stay at Tango Hotel in Val Thorens from 11th January for 1 week and I would like to share my experience in the hope that it can be of assistance for future guests. I was told this was a 4 star hotel, it is most certainly not, it is rated as 3 star by the Hotel itself. We were told by Crystal Ski this was a 4 star hotel. Firstly, I want to acknowledge the beautiful location and the potential of the hotel. However, I encountered several issues during my stay that I believe warrant your attention. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that the bedroom was quite small, with the two single beds being narrower than standard. The beds are a sprung base, and what looks like a 3 inch mattress topper on top. I had the worst sleep of my life all week, with back aches since! The wardrobe space was minimal, and there was no safe provided for storing valuables. I carried our passports and wallets everywhere including skiing! Additionally, our room, 106, had a balcony overlooking the restaurant area, which was noisy due to guests drinking and smoking outside. I requested another room as soon as we checked in for this reason and I was told the hotel was full. The noise levels were unbearable all week. The bathroom presented a significant problem, as there was a strong sewage smell. I had to request assistance upon check-in, and although the staff did place something in the drain to alleviate the odour, it took a few hours before we could return to the room. A dirty brush was left in the bathroom, and the replacement provided was faulty. The handle kept falling off when you would use it. The room itself was cold, and I was informed that extra blankets were unavailable, leading to uncomfortable nights. We slept in jumpers and tracksuit bottoms all week. Furthermore, the water from the bathroom tap had an unpleasant smell, which caused us to use bottled water for brushing our teeth throughout our stay. We made several complaints about this and the reception manager was extremely condescending in how he spoke to me about this, his manner was extremely uncomfortable and unsettling. On the second night, we attempted to enjoy our half-board dinner. Unfortunately, we experienced a long wait for service and other tables being served before us although seated after us, and even after multiple requests, it was not until 39 minutes had passed that we were attended to. We were unsure how the Half Board worked, and when it was explained to us, my daughter requested a burger and fries from the main menu, I opted for the chicken supreme which was on the half board menu. My daughter's meal was dropped on the floor when it eventually arrived down to us which was particularly upsetting, as was the subsequent attempt to serve her the remaining fries from the floor! We felt the overall service was unprofessional and unhygienic. There was sauced spilled all over our shoes, shopping bags and coat, to which the waiter laughed and offered no apology

We spent a week with the kids along with another family and had a half-board package with this hotel, booked via Crystal holidays. The rooms were good and modern and the staff very helpful and engaging. The food was excellent (apart from the pasta). The even-better-if are: - The rooms were noisy in the evening, partly from noise on the street and partly from the dining area, where the scraping of the chairs on the floor echoed into the rooms - The evening menu could benefit from kids options. The kids had to order 3 course meals in the same way and with the same portions as the adults. Although it didn’t cost us any more - as it was a package - the volume of food was much too much for the little ones so there was a lot of food waste and we felt we were overpaying. Otherwise a positive experience.

We had an absolutely fantastic time at hotel Tango during our recent ski/snowboarding trip. From the moment we arrived, everything was smooth and welcoming – the service, the atmosphere, and the attention to detail made it a truly memorable stay. A very special mention must go to Linnea and Rhiannon, who went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. Their friendly and professional approach made us feel right at home, they made a real difference. The hotel itself is perfectly situated for easy access to the slopes, with great facilities to relax after a day on the mountain – from the cozy lounge areas to the delicious food and comfortable rooms. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone planning a ski getaway. Thanks again to the whole team – especially Linnea and Rhiannon – for making our trip so special!

Stayed here for a week's skiing in March and we were very happy with our stay. We booked it precisely for its lively atmosphere! Plenty of choice for breakfast, albeit the scrambled eggs and sausage bacon were often cold. Evening meals were a three course affair and generally excellent. We found the portion sizes just right - sometimes struggling to finish our dessert! Drinks in the bar were reasonably priced and the barman made a fantastic Old Fashioned! It does get busy and we did sometimes struggle to get a comfy seat after dinner, but if you hang around at the bar, or sit at a high table, you'll get one eventually. I've no idea why some previous guests were complaining about the boot room - it's right next to reception with plenty seating to get booted up and there was plenty storage. Rooms are small, but that's common in all ski accommodation, no matter where you go! More or less ski-in and out. My only suggestion for the hotel would P be some live music. Would definitely return to this hotel if we go back to Val Thorens.

We are currently at the Hotel Tango and even though the location, room and food are good I wouldn’t return back to this hotel. In the evening there’s nowhere to sit, the bar is packed full of drunken non residents attracted by the pizzas and the lively bar. It’s extremely loud and unpleasant to sit in. In the restaurant you never get the same seat or time each evening. Non residents seem to take priority. After skiing the outside area is packed, again no chance of finding a seat. I can see why the owners would do this because it’s making them loads of money. We’ve skied in lots of resorts and never seen anything like this before, we hadn’t realised what we’ve booked into. Maybe need to change name to Bar and pizza Tango. On a plus the staff work extremely hard.

We went to eat at the Tango restaurant, the service was terrible, the people were un polity and disgusting, the Pizza was OK, and the prices were expincive, other than the Pizza all the other dishes were unworthy, we found a much better all over Val Thorens, do not go there

It’s a nice hotel and good location for ski in / out, although wouldn’t recommend for beginners as it’s a narrow, icy path to ski out and a sometimes churned up / busy Plein Sud blue piste to get back in. Food is truly excellent, service is very good and restaurant staff are great. Rooms are fine - clean, functional, comfy beds and powerful shower. We had a nice balcony with a lovely view of the mountains. Would have been nice to have a kettle in the room but that’s a fairly minor issue, which we resolved by purchasing a small kettle from the supermarket! (I did ask the hotel if we could have a kettle for the room but they don’t provide kettles). Boot room is fine - had no issue storing our skis in there and just took our boots up to our room as there was limited space for boots. However, despite all these positives, there is one major reason I would not return to this hotel - noise! We were in room 106 which is located right above the bar terrace (however I suspect all of the first floor rooms will experience the issue I’m about to describe). We could hear every word being spoken / shouted, every braying laugh and smell every cigarette being smoked up until around 23.30 / midnight every night. My partner and I love a good drink / socialising but when we come skiing, we come for the ski so we like to be asleep for around 22.00 so we can get out on the slopes early. It was impossible to get an uninterrupted sleep, leaving us very tired for the entire stay - we even missed a day of skiing because we were just too tired having not once managed to achieve a solid night’s sleep. I purchased some ear plugs which muffled the noise somewhat but I was still awoken by the noise / struggled to get to sleep. I do wonder whether the hotel could help matters by closing access to the terrace by 23.00 (or even earlier ideally). A critical part of any hotel stay is getting a good night’s sleep (even more so when you’re out skiing all day) but unfortunately, with the hotel’s current policy of allowing guests to use the terrace late at night, that’s an impossibility if you’re staying in a room above the terrace.

We spent a week at Tango with teenage kids. I had been before and knew that the food was good. The first night we arrived the food was superb. One of the best fillet steaks Ive ever had. The rest of the week was mainly good but there were a couple of off nights. Some side dishes and starters were a bit strange and inadequate. Its a busy place. Not always room in the lounge to sit after or before dinner because its popular. Rooms are pretty good. Some negatives - Mattresses are very thin. Wet room does get properly wet because its not a big bathroom. I was very disappointed that the sauna was chargeable at 10Euros per person for 30mins. Boot room is inadequate for the number of people but wasnt really a problem. Location is good. Sometime some noise in the middle of the night because you are near the bars at the top of the resort. Very difficult to get value for money in VT. There are better hotels but they cost a lot. For a couple or group of friends, Tango would be great. Teenage kids was ok. Would not recommend for young family.
