We stayed at Barceló Marine and really loved it. The view, the vibe, the staff… everything was on point.

Stunning surroundings. Comfortable room, bed and pillows. Significant room for improvement for disabled guests. Please implement strictly non smoking areas, please! And would be good to have a spa onsite. Most of the staff were friendly, attentive and polite - couldn't do enough for you! Supervisors? (beige trousers/skirts) engaged with guests, more senior staff didn't! Seemed hierarchical and felt that more senior managers/trainers were VIP. Witnessed two listening to their phones without earphones in the dinning area - strange dynamics for hospitality, especially for such a beautiful, peaceful hotel, targeting adults only! Overall, we had a restful, lovely break. Thank you staff!

So we arrived on the first week in June 25 and we knew that this hotel had only just reopened after a major refit just a few weeks before. First impressions were very good as we got into our brand new room, the seals still on the fridge, the tie wraps left on the hairdryer and the safe with all the warranty papers for the boiler in it. First issue was that there was no hot water going to the shower head! (Quickly sorted by the engineers) then the safe wouldn’t work (still not resolved when we left). Second issue was the amount of security around the grounds was a tad unnerving especially as one of their lookout posts was right outside our room on the balcony leading to the room door (142) we kept hearing them walking up and down the walkway and the occasional cackle of his radio. The staff around the hotel were very polite and helpful (although there was still a lot of training going on) The entertainment was non existent throughout the day with the team just milling around trying to look busy. None of the activities on the daily agenda actually happened with the exception of the local cocktail and food afternoon and the bowls. The evening entertainment was shocking.. ( again I guess the hotel is still trying things out and finding its feet). The food.. The snack bar took an absolute age to get our food once ordered.. longest we waited was 35 mins for a club sandwich! Luckily for the chef there was less than a quarter of the guests at the hotel, as if it had been any busier then nobody would of eaten until the evening meal, which again due to the amount of guests the options of food was minimal! The hot grill was only warm as it took about 4 mins to do an omelette never mind the steaks and fish on an evening.. the hot plate chef needs to start multi tasking as they only do one order at a time! Long queues at dinner when there’s only 20 or so guests in the restaurant. If you’re going away to do absolutely nothing but chill in nice surroundings then this is the spot. I think that most of these issues are purely teething problems and if they are resolved then it would make for a very nice place to spend a week. I know I’ve done nowt but be negative but I guess this is the gamble you take picking a newly refurbed hotel over an established hotel like Rui for example.

A small-scale all-inclusive where guest well-being truly comes first, and where you feel genuinely welcome — thanks in large part to the sincere friendliness of the entire staff. The rooms are impressively spacious and equipped with every comfort. Not only air conditioning, but also a silent ceiling fan that provides a gentle, cooling breeze during the night. The complex is peacefully located, yet within walking distance of Sal Rei, with views of the Fatima chapel. We stayed here just after the reopening in May 2025, and every member of the staff went out of their way to make guests feel at home.

We just got back from 10 days at the Barcelo Marine and what a fantastic relaxing time we have had. The place has just been renovated to a high standard and the room we had (112) had amazing views of the sea. Food was great, hot and plenty of choice but what made the holiday great was the staff. They genuinely couldn’t do enough for you and the work they put in to ensure your holiday is perfect was clearly apparent. We will be returning!

We stayed for 2 weeks and we wanted a quiet relaxing break this complex did not disappoint. The staff where very polite and very helpful, they worked very hard to ensure the complex was clean and the guests were catered for. The food was great with plenty to choose from, you have to remember they are only catering for a small number of guests so you do not have the same selection like you do at a large resort. We were expecting teething problems due to it only just opening but they were to a minimum and we were impressed that guest comments were listened to and acted on, things like ice cream been available at the pool bar and beach towels exchange coming available near the pool. If you you want a quiet relaxing holiday this is the place to go. We will be going back

I’m laying at the beach on our last full day at this lovely hotel… we fly home tomorrow after a week of relaxation. If you’re looking for a chilled break then this is the place to go. Pros: the staff, amazing!!!! They really are a credit to the hotel, who was the cocktail maker on the launch night? he needs a raise, he’s such a polite, respectful lovely young man. Peaceful location… the rooms are lovely. No need to worry about bringing a hair dryer ladies. Cons: the layout of the rooms could do with a bit of a tweak, no where to plug kettle in so had to boil it in bathroom every morning (minor inconvenience) The hanging space doesn’t accommodate dresses, had to hang all mine from curtain pole (also minor inconvenience) Housekeeping didn’t top up coffee, water, sugar…. Not sure if they were meant to. The food is very repetitive but having said that I’ve had fresh fish cooked on the grill every night and it was delicious. The beach is very rough but we know what the sea is like in Cape Verde… so didn’t expect anything other than a red flag. A little walk to the left over the big sand dune and there’s a lovely little cove…you can get in the sea there.

A fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of options and fresh natural juices — a real highlight. The pool is large, well-maintained, and perfect for relaxing with sea views. The poolside restaurant is also very good — ideal if you just want to spend the whole day there without needing to go anywhere else. The staff were outstanding: incredibly helpful, friendly, and always welcoming. I’d definitely love to come back. Thank you for a perfect stay!

Excellent location My biggest bugbear was the temperature of the "Hot" buffet. It was bearly tepid bordering on the unsafe. There were very few guests as the hotel only opened at the beginning of May, The hotel knew about the food problem and is trying to rectify. This hadn't been solved by the time we came home on 30th May. All of the guests we spoke to had upset stomachs. If you want a holiday with wall to wall entertainment then don't go here but if you want a holiday in a lovely hotel in a fantastic location then this is the place for you. Chilled yoga in the morning, gentle aqua aerobics at 12.00, a saxaphone player round the pool on one afternoon, 3 man strong animation team were fantastic with a special shout out to Patrick who went above and beyond. The bay at the hotel is a little rough and the red flag was always flying but a 2 minute walk around the rocks takes you to a more sheltered bay. 3 euros for a taxi into Sal Rei well worth the trip to the public beach as the sand is white and the sea is much calmer.
