Casa Susegad is so much more than an accommodation. It is an experience in itself. Carole and Norman have lovingly restored an old traditional Goan-Portuguese home in the beautiful village of Loutolim, maintaining its historical integrity and character while giving it new life with bohemian color, charm and a bit of whimsy. We were fortunate to be there over New Year's when the twinkly Christmas lights and Goan Christmas stars made it even more magical. Carole and Norman's love for the place, and Goa, is contagious, and one wants to just sink into their lifestyle and stay forever. They treat everyone, guests, staff, and their many pets alike, as one big family. They cater to your individual needs, provide advice on sight-seeing, shopping, beaches, and restaurants. We arrived on our anniversary and Carole took great pains communicating with us to ensure we had a romantic evening and delicious candlelit meal in our own private garden, even going to special effort to rearrange the guest rooms for extra privacy. Jonita, the cook, takes great pride in making sure the guests are happy with their meals, and is happy to share her recipes for traditional Goan meals like prawn curry and pork vindaloo as well as the house specialties like mackerel pate, and mango jam and mango chutney. Ram Das, a regular taxi driver for Casa Susegad guests, was far and away our best and most helpful driver during our entire stay in Goa. Casa Susegad makes an excellent base for sight-seeing in the northern part of South Goa (tours of historic Goa-Portuguese homes in the area, the town of Margao with its market and colonial architecture, the Goa Citra museum, and several beautiful beaches) or just to relax and unwind by the pool or in the jungle garden behind the house. We are eager to return to Casa Susegad.
