Everything was wonderful, and the bed and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud. What a nice property. Good coffee and lots of prepared snacks ready to grab any time. The only odd thing is that check-in is after 4PM, and the desk closes at 5PM. If you can't be there during that hour, you can check-in online, and they arrange for you to get in after hours, which did work well.

This historic hotel has a warm, “feels like home” charm while still offering thoughtful modern upgrades. The space is full of originality and character, yet everything feels clean and comfortable—from the cozy bedding to the heated bathroom floors. The electric fireplace adds an extra touch, making the rooms especially warm and inviting. Guests will appreciate the convenient grab-and-go breakfast with plenty of snacks, along with 24-hour self-serve espresso stations on two floors—perfect for early mornings or late nights. Perched on a hill, the hotel also offers great views, and its location is ideal—walkable to everything you need.

This inn was a dream to stay at! Every staff member was so kind and welcoming! They had fresh baked scones and fritattas every morning and fresh *warm* chocolate chip cookies every afternoon. All of it tasted immaculate. We looked forward to breakfast every day and coming in from the cold to a warm cookie was just amazing! This inn is also centrally located so we walked everywhere. It has some really cool history behind it too! We took a walking tour (history and haunts walking tour with Dean was equally wonderful) and the inn was part of the tour! Finally, the room was beautiful. It was so welcoming and lovely. The fireplace and heated bathroom floor were very much needed after walking in the cold all day. The bed was so comfortable I didn't even miss my own! If you are making a trip to Salem, you absolutely MUST stay at The Merchant! You will not regret it 💜

Clean and unique bed and breakfast in the heart of Salem. Overhead light sporadically turned during my first night's stay.

I really enjoyed breakfast by the fireplace! I appreciate the choice of teas, delicious frittata, and yogurt compote. The room was lovely and spacious, and the staff were excellent.

Lovely historic home with well appointed rooms. I love that there are food and snacks available at all times and on different levels of the house we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and when returning to Salem will stay again. Staff was very communicative, friendly, helpful and like check-in was a breeze.
