My husband and I stayed for three nights in January. The whole experience was wonderful. There is nothing that the superb staff won't do for you. And so friendly! We especially enjoyed our conversations with Ruben. Upon arrival he made us a wonderful cocktail and showed us to our very nice, clean, comfortable room. There is a restaurant on site but not really an official one. They will just cook for you when you are hungry and the food is great. I had brunch reservations one morning but cancelled because breakfast was so good. And the lamb tacos...omg! The location is great. Very close to the main square and good restaurants. It's a pretty main street but once you go through the entrance it's like you are in a different world. And it's so quiet. We didn't hear any street noise at all. We plan on returning to SMA frequently, we loved it so much, and we will always stay at Hotel Amparo. We had cocktails or meals at other hotels but they just couldn't compete with the charm of Amparo

We learned of Hotel Amparo in a travel magazine when it first opened and thought it would be the perfect place to stay, in a city we have wanted to visit for some time. We booked it six months ahead of our trip because they only have 5 rooms and we wanted to make sure we had our accommodation before we booked flights. And then we counted down the months until our visit. The hotel was excellent in helping us set up a ride from the airport, booking in-room massages, staying on top of our flight info like a relative would and providing beautiful salads upon our very late evening arrival. We fell in love with this place and started planning a return trip within the first 5 minutes of our stay. It is THAT wonderful. I don’t think we’ve ever stayed in such a beautiful place, so thoughtfully designed and yet so warm and comfortable. We loved all the details from the beautiful hand towels to the cups our coffee was served in to the music they played - it was all fabulous. The hotel upgraded our room to the biggest room they have which we very much appreciated and enjoyed. The downside of such a great room is that you never want to leave it! Our only criticisms of the room are that the lighting was not ideal for reading in bed and the mattress was not great. We started off every day with breakfast at the hotel and thought every dish they served was delicious and a great way to start the day in SMA. This was a 5-star experience until the last 5 minutes of our stay. Unfortunately our stay ended on such a sour note that we will not be return guests after all. The employee who checked us out and saw us off said, “When you come back, don’t stay here... Just kidding.” With a smile on his face. I don’t know on what planet that line would be considered funny, but we didn’t take it as funny. We both thought it was odd. And a bit uncomfortable after we had just left a tip for the 5-night stay. Maybe it was insufficient. It was not a great way to end our vacation. I was still thinking about it when we arrived home 14 hours later. I used to work in the service industry and had a manager who always said you have to be a good guest to get good service, and thinking about that I got a little upset. I thought we were good guests, but I don’t know. In any case we won’t be returning to Hotel Amparo. I also can’t recommend it to friends and family, hence the 2-star review.

What a beautiful place tucked away in the heart of San Miguel ! Comfy king bed, nice fireplace, terrific bath products, and breakfast on the rooftop ! What not to like ?? Ruben and Montsy were absolutely fabulous hosts. And what a magical town by the way ! Delicious food every where you turn. The cooking class here with Pepe was fun and informative as well . You will want more than one of the welcome mezcal drinks ! Can't wait to return.

There are no words to describe our stay here. I even considered Belmond, Rosewood, 1810, etc., but this is definitely the place to be! It’s perfect in every aspect. It truly is a dream come true. I never, in my life, imagined that I’d have the chance to stay in some place so magical and so beautiful. Special thanks to Vanessa and Ruben in assisting me. Thank you also for the upgrade and for the crib for my infant. I can’t believe they even went out of their way to get a pack n play for my baby. So please, even if you have a baby, stay here so they can offer you the crib. The breakfast was most divine. It’s definitely the most delicious breakfast I’ve had in all of Mexico. The place is so beautiful that I hope to come back in the future. Because of our stay at Hotel Amparo, everything, literally everything was downhill from there. You cannot imagine the attention to detail they give and the very personalized service! I love even the Le Labo products, B&O speakers, etc. It’s truly magical. I hope everyone gets to experience it at least once in their lifetime. All the rooms are beautiful! There are no bad rooms here, just like there’s no bad food. The ultimate best!!!!!!!!! Don’t even think twice, just book it!!!!
