Most visitors stay longer than we did to learn about the permaculture and sustainability ethos or there on a volunteering stint, but we were made to feel very welcome. The staff are friendly, helpful and passionate about their home. Our 2-night stay allowed us to enjoy a morning farm tour and evening twilight walk, hike up to the top of the property to take in the spectacular views of the lake and volcano, afternoon horse riding hack to explore the surrounding areas and relaxing dip in the spring pools. Our deluxe room was big and comfortable with farm made soap provided. The kitchen staff provided meals that represented the farm to plate and local community buying concept and the pizza made with farm made cheese was some of the best I've eaten. Wi-fi was available in the bar and communal areas, but not the rooms. The drive into Rancho Margot is bumpy and unmade, so slow and although a 4x4 isn't a must, it is recommended. It's a great base to look upon the Arenal sights rather than being in it and looking outwards.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Rancho Margot Ecolodge in March 2025. We absolutely loved our time there. The food was amazing, the farm tour was neat, and the grounds were gorgeous and well maintained. The bungalow we stayed in was cozy and very clean. The best part was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and made our stay so comfortable. We would definitely recommend Rancho Margot!!

A truly remarkable experience. From the natural beauty, to the friendly and attentive staff, to the vision and commitment to regenerative food production and sustainability...We visited with our 2 kids and cannot say enough good things about our time at Rancho Margot. For those seeking an authentic experience that's off--but not too far off--the beaten path, run to Rancho Margot.

This is something everyone should go see once in their life. We were so glad for our kids to be able to have experienced, toured and stayed at a complete self-sustaining, off grid farm. The porches on the bungalows are just phenomenal respites from the rain and so relaxing. The sound of rain and running water is present 100% of the time. Also, our meals were first class. Everything is so fresh. Also, don't miss the chocolate shake that they make at the bar. Also, this was the best shower we had in Costa Rica. I think they must just have an overabundance of water coming out of the mountainside. The only negative was that we tried bass fishing in the pond, but didn't get even a single bite. If we were to return, I don't think we would waste our time at the pond and would just go fish on Lake Arenal instead.

This eco-resort is in the middle of the rainforest. The birds and flowers are beautiful and numerous. The staff were wonderful and very knowledgeable. Be sure to take the farm and night tours. The food, 95% of which is grown on the ranch, is excellent and inventive.

I’ve Never been through a roller coaster of emotions in my life about a stay more than this one. I fell in love with the description of the place when we booked it, and when we drove the day of the reservation to the place, and we approached the near roads and discovered that you most likely have to have an off-road vehicle just to get there My warning flashes in my head went off. We finally made it safely there after avoiding dangerous, potholes, and articulating and maneuvering rocks in off-road style . We get to this place which needs so much TLC however as we stayed for more than a day, we learned to love the nature around the place. It is definitely located in a beautiful secluded area, but to be honest, the lack of accommodations and service and how poorly things worked such as water, simple electricity, and how overpriced this place is I will have to conclude that this was sort of a scam of a place. It’s a shame. I am very disappointed. If the owners are serious about having this as a business, This place has plenty of potential .. But I didn’t get the vibe that this was a serious establishment

We went here for a few days of our honeymoon in Costa Rica and it was absolutely amazing. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, there are a few friendly dogs that live on property that were the cutest, and they do all types of tours, soap making etc. The included food was very good and the bartender Anthony was absolutely amazing as was the younger gentleman working with him I don't remember his name. We felt super comfortable and had an amazing time. The do not have AC but that did not bother us at all because there were fans and we were very comfortable. There's a cute little breakfast area to sit outside with each cabin and a comfy hammock. The pools were beautiful as well. I would have to say this is not a super super fancy place if that is what you're looking for but if you're looking for an Eco resort and some education this place was awesome.

Rancho Margot was fabulous! We stayed in the house -- my husband and I, my parents, and our five year old. Everything was comfortable and felt like we were really away from it all. All the staff were incredibly friendly and our kid could be independent in a way we felt completely safe for him. Good food, fun pool, the yoga was great....
