I don't like leaving negative views but we would not have stayed here if we knew what it was like, and feel it is important to be honest. It has some good points, but was not a comfortable place to stay. Our room was large with an en suite bathroom. The bathroom was dated and the bath panel and toilet seat are both damaged. One basin tap pointed in the wrong direction. The extractor did not work and there was no window. Hot water was not warm enough for a shower, really poor. The furniture in the bedroom did not match and looked like it had been bought cheaply off facebook marketplace. The mattress was thin and uncomfortable. There is a bathroom directly outside the room we stayed in for the use of other guests. Unfortunately it has a very noisy extractor fan so every time anyone used the bathroom it was quite loud in our room. The owner is aware of the issues and others that have left comments have the same concerns, which must have been obvious for a long time. The large house is set off the main road in spacious grounds with plenty of car parking spaces. The breakfast room is bright with cereal, tea/coffee and toast included in the room price, which was fine. Cooked breakfast is charged at £7 extra per person, one was very good, one served cold and not good. Overall, for the price paid, the room is just not good enough. I had little sleep and would never stay here again.

Really lovely place to stay. Jay and Alice were very welcoming and thoughtful. My room was a triple overlooking the farmland and hills. The rooms have been done up in keeping with the age of the property. I love the artists and art works themes. Bed was really comfortable. It was cool for July but I was nice and cosy. Tea and coffee and lovely millionaires shortcake in my room, including decaf tea which was perfect. Bathroom great too, plenty of hot water. In the breakfast room is a microwave so you can heat something for your tea. Plates and cutlery available too. This was a really thoughtful touch. Breakfast was lovely. Thank you both very much.

We were greeted warmly at Rigg House before being shown to our comfortable room which had all that we needed. WIFI was free and easy to get into. The shower was particularly easy to use; I am often flummoxed by the complications of modern showers but the Rigg one was gloriously simple and provided lots of hot water. Breakfast was lovely and we could have it whenever it suited us. All in all, we were very happy.

We stayed 10 days at the Rigg House as we had planed a quiet and relaxing holiday in the scottish country and we were not disappointed ! James and Alice have been very nice and helpful to us, we loved the place (house decoration, comfort of the room, breakfast room at our disposal at any time with fridge and microwave) and we felt like we were at home ! We highly recommend the Rigg House which has a very good value for money, thanks a lot for everything James and Alice ! Véronique and Thomas

Unfortunately we were disappointed with our recent stay at Rigg House B&B. Firstly the positives, we experienced a warm welcome from the hosts on our arrival and the B&B is set off the main road in spacious grounds with plenty of car parking spaces. A small jar of millionaire shortbread in the room was a nice touch. The breakfast room is fresh and bright with cereal, tea/coffee and toast included in the room price. Cooked breakfast is NOT included and is charged at £7 extra per person which we chose not to have. Our room was large with an en suite bathroom. The bathroom was dated and the wooden panel on the side of the bath needs replaced as it is water damaged. The shower curtain did not appear to be clean as it was discoloured at the base of the curtain. The furniture in the bedroom was a bit tired and dated and unfortunately the mattresses on the bed was uncomfortable with barely any cushioning left in them. The sheet on the bed had ink stains on it and the bed throw and cushions on the bed did not smell fresh. The curtains at the window did not fully cover the window and the windowsill had dead flies on it. There is a bathroom directly outside the room we stayed in for the use of other guests. Unfortunately it has a very noisy extractor fan so every time anyone used the bathroom we were wakened by the noise. My partner did discuss the issues with the owner before we left as he felt it important to be honest about our views. It is a shame as the house is a lovely old building and just needs a few improvements to make the room we were in more comfortable and pleasant to stay in.

Very last minute booking due to issues elsewhere. Attending a wedding at the Lochside Hotel a dew miles up the road and needed somewhere just for the 1 night. The building is a big old house with all the things you would expect. The rooms were big and spacious, and the bed really comfy. Shower could do with a bit more omph but was fine to get yourself wet. The husband and wife team were also great and so helpful advising places to eat and helping arrange a taxi to the wedding. Lovely nights stay and woukd definitely recommend.

A couple of older relatives and I stayed overnight on Thursday before a family function on Friday. The house is fine as a B&B - caters for walkers and pets so expecting a bit of mud around the place shouldn't be an issue. The decor is interesting ... and looks homegrown ... I think probably Alice did those, and the poeple who whinge about dust should nip around to mine and shut up, Bed was clean and comfy as can be, If I need be in Sanquhar again I'll stay there

Stayed here on our way to Scotland and again on the return journey. Big family room and all tea and coffee making facilities provided along with some treats. Good full English breakfast and cereal and toast available to all. Friendly welcome and people who care about the stay being positive.
