Hotel Solar BOM Jesus

Booked this place for 2 nights, total including breakfast £119. I was just out of hospital in Portugal having operation for stomach cancer. Before flight home to England. Put me and my son in horrible room small window facing a wall. Complained so changed room. I had medication from hospital that needed to be kept cold,. The fridge in the room did not work, ask for replacement fridge, which arrived next day,. Not kettle for making tea/coffee, very basic room Sorry we didn't book better hotel in area for cheaper price When checking out, reception staff charge me for , water and bedroom tax, I said I haven't had any water, and Agoda price of £118 was total. No extra to pay. Staff insisted I had to pay, I was in so much pain still with operation for cancer, I just paid extra rippoff charge they ask for I only way I can get some Solis on this hotel is to warn people to avoid this place like the plaig and not to book here. The pictures look lovely, but trust me not the same when you arrive there (scam). Left a bitter taste with me. Horrible old staff, just want your money and not polite about it. I had cancer removed from my stomach, and was glad to remove myself from this so called hotel ( what a joke). Should hang there heads in shame.

Great stay. We arrived late and the gentleman at the front desk was so kind and accommodating!! Would definitely recommend. Very convenient to airport!
Hotel Roca Mar
4.2/597 Reviews
We stayed for 5 nights, All inclusive, at the Rocamar Lido resort. Room: Our room was lovely - sea view and very big. The walls are quite thin, so we could hear the people above us, who had children running up and down at times. Staff: The majority of the staff were very welcoming and polite to us throughout our stay- Susanna at the bar was lovely. Food: Breakfast was lovely and a good selection- but it can get very busy. Lunch and dinner options were very hit and miss. As we were all inclusive, we expected to have a wider selection each day. Unfortunately, most days the hotel offered the same foods in different variations. The food at the Lee Hamilton steak house at the hotel was lovely and we went their twice - this is half price of staying all inclusive. We found it strange that we were stopped from playing play card games at the bar area- we have never heard of this before. Hotel: The location is perfect and you can go for some lovely walks around Canico. There are some places to eat nearby, so would recommend to go B&B and try local cuisine. The hotel offer a shuttle bus to Funchal but only at 9.30am and return at 5.00pm, so we ended up getting a taxi - which are quite expensive.
Santa Cruz Village Hotel
4.4/558 Reviews
We really enjoyed our stay at Santa Cruz Village Hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable, housekeeping visited each morning and were very respectful of belongings. All of the staff were so attentive and helpful, they were brilliant with our children. The reception staff are so knowledgeable and helped us to plan our visits to the places we wanted to see. The bus stop is right outside with regular buses to Funchal and Machico. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide range of fruit, meats and cheeses, bread, pastries, yoghurt, cereals and cooked items. Our favourite item was the delicious orange cake which we miss dearly! The location is perfect for Santa Cruz itself with an easy stroll into town and to the beach front. There is a supermarket right next door and a range of restaurants within a few minutes to the main square. The water park is walkable along the promenade which our children enjoyed. A fantastic visit, the staff at this hotel deserve high praise as they made our first visit to Madeira amazing!
Hotel Riu Madeira - All Inclusive
4.5/5102 Reviews
Having visited Riu’s in Morocco and Cape Verde, we had high hopes. The place is spotless, the staff are excellent. The wifi is brilliant. No matter what time we got up in the morning, we always found a lounger. We spent most of our 2 weeks, relaxing around the pool. One pool is slightly warmer than the other, but, both are nice. It never felt overly crowded, except when it rained and everyone was inside. Thankfully it only rained on one occasion. The food was varied, but I have a bone to pick with the buffet restaurant…..literally… Too many bones, especially the duck. Both times I had some, all I got was huge chunks of bone and no meat. Aside from that, we had a good holiday. We had one trip out to Funchal, using the hotel bus. Oh, and some of the towels need replacing. All I kept getting were threadbare ones.
Sentido Galosol

This hotel complex is beautiful!! It is clean, safe and the views from every corner are stunning. It started off a bit rough, as we arrived at 11pm and unfortunately only Luis was on duty. He really needs customer service training. We upgraded to a seaview room at a higher price so upon checkin I asked if our room was seaview. His reply was if “that is what you booked then you got it”. Our ac was not working and the room was boiling. Luis was not helpful at all. After seeing the room, we told him we booked a 28 metre room. And our room was tiny. His reply “i don’t carry a measuring tape, some rooms are big and some are small”. Anyway we gave up, unpacked and went to bed. In the morning, we went to reception and she was so helpful! She said the room we booked was not available but she could move us to Galomar. From then on our stay was amazing. We were slightly annoyed that we had to repack and move as we had to wait for the new room to be ready at 1pm. So we did lose a morning. Not ideal when we only had two full days there. Everything else was excellent. The restaurants, the pools and the room. Just a note that the LIDO area by the ocean is public. Meaning that you will not get chairs/umbrella at that level (unless you go super early). But there are more near the other pool. We loved the Galomar and highly recommend you get a seaview room there.
