Colonna Grand Hotel Capo Testa, a Colonna Luxury Beach Hotel, Santa Teresa Sardegna

We stayed at this hotel in September 2024 (my review being a tad bit delayed, but here it is nonetheless). Overall, it was a great stay, but there are a few things travelers should be wary of before booking. I'll share these below. The Highlights: First off, the pools, beach and view are outstanding. Just lovely. And the grounds are well taken care off, and overall cleanliness of the hotel is great. The breakfast is solid . . . comparable with other hotels I've stayed at in Europe, with lots of choices and options for all. The rooms were well appointed (though the bathrooms a tad bit small, but certainly navigable). The Lowlights: Let's be frank . . . it's not a five or even a four star hotel, relative to my experience throughout Italy and Europe. It's just shy of four star, IMHO. BUT, it's still a good hotel and worth staying at . . . great location outside of Santa Teresa. My biggest concern with the hotel is the lack of food service. Unless you book full board, and commit to eating dinner at their restaurant every night (not something I wanted to do . . . and I subsequently heard from other guest that the food is not all that great) you will not likely be able to eat there. Which is fine, if they had other dining options, or even a bar menu . . . but they don't, beyond a frozen flat bread or ham toast sandwich (whatever that was). That's just inexcusable, particular given that the hotel is not centrally located. So if you are getting to the hotel late, whether when arriving or if after a long day tour, you are somewhat stuck. There are two restaurants in walking distance . . . one is OK . . . the other (Martini's) is less os. So planning is needed to get into town, which has some good restaurants, if you can't otherwise get into (or don't want to eat) in the hotel restaurant. If I had one suggestion for the hotel it would be to run the shuttle service into town a bit later. It would be nice to take it into town for dinner and then be able to take it back after dinner. As it stands, the shuttle stops at 7 p.m. . . . and a cab ride for the five or so minute ride back to the hotel runs about 25 Euros. Overall service was good . . . and I found it interesting that the staff seemed to sympathize about the hotel's policies surrounding the lack of food menu. That said, at times, the bar and breakfast crew seemed a tad understaffed . . . though not for lack of effort and care from those waiting on us.

Excellent placement and access nice views and beach . We were very pleased to spend time there with the family and kids.

Hotel in general is nice and has a classic Italian feeling. It is clean and maintained well with decent food choices. Breakfast can be a bit innovative with different options and not same each and everyday. Added a star just for the kind and amazingly helpful reception staff and manager who were helpless themselves but went above and beyond to serve us well! First day, there was no porter or help for the receptionist who himself had to carry luggage, check us in, show the rooms and serve our meals - all with an amazing smiling face. Kudos to the elderly gentleman who was working on night duty. Lucia - the reception manager was really helpful in sorting the rooms out. Due to excessive heat, the second bedroom was boiling hot but Lucia and her team with minimum or no help from corporate and no investment in £30 fan, when we paid £10,000 for 3 rooms, tried sorting out fans and changed one of our room. Again not their fault but the hotel should have some more fans in stock as Sardinia is hot in general. Elisa and Francesca also were amazing. They tried reaching out as much as they can to back office or engineers but seeing them working hard in the heat during night time, sweating themselves, struggling with heat, no help or no back office management answering the phones, they tried their level best to address the issue and resolved it the very next morning so a big thank you! Certainly the reception staff needs recognition as they went above and beyond to help us all. Surely when we pay £10,000 for a week’s stay, the company can invest for £12-15 fan. The five stars are only because of the help we received from the reception. ITI hotels should make an investment of a small air-con for reception staff who are going above and beyond in this heat.

We spent a week in Capo Testa having been to a hotel we like on the Costa Smeralda three times previously. This location was better as the hotel had its own easy access beach with shallow, calm sea right out front. We booked half board and the food in the restaurant was very varied and high quality. They catered very well for my gluten intolerance and nothing was too much trouble for the genuine and kind staff. I have unreasonably high standards and was very pleasantly surprised at the cuisine and service we received in the restaurant. Bed was a bit hard, but you can’t have everything! The clientele were mainly German and Italian and all very respectful and nice. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Staff very friendly and attentive. Great access to the beach and water shallow for children. Swimming pools also good for children. Good breakfast. Evening meal is a five course delight, with each being very tasty, and great variety. We had a fantastic sea view room. Music each night from the resident musician not too loud for comfort. Our highlight was the Maddalena Island boat trip. And try the harbour bar/cafe after your trip for a happy drink.
