The accommodation provides a heated pool, spacious and clean rooms, friendly multilingual staff, and convenient location near ski lifts and town amenities. However, some reviews mention the need for more dining options on-site.

Unfortunately, the poor food experience (evening meals mostly) still endure at this hotel and the owners responses to previous reviews seems to be argue with reviewers, rather than to acknowledge serious underlying issues and make effective improvements; a real shame as this is otherwise a well-located hotel for the ski area. The salad bar items which the owners detail in their replies aren't anything I recognise from my stay there during the week (lots of tinned sweetcorn and beans)! Ultimately, the main courses are the worst I've ever experienced, at any half board hotel, let alone one which is meant to be a 4 star establishment. Crystal Ski need to get a grip of the hotel/restaurant management to resolve the issue, which sounds like it has existed throughout this winter season... I don't normally leave reviews but I'm afraid the quality of the food at the hotel is such that I can't let it pass, it had a negative effect on my holiday and I am currently taking up a formal complaint with TUI (Crystal Ski). Hopefully, TUI/Crystal will remove the hotel from future use if they can't sort things out before the end of this season, the hotel has potential to be as amazing as it was under what I assume was different management looking at the dates of the reviews. Oh and your pool needs a good clean, green algae growing in various places suggests this hasn't been actioned. Thankfully the skiing was good!

We had a great week at Alpinhotel Maistatt in Schladming! The hotel itself is clean, tidy, and well-maintained. Our room was comfortable, though there were some minor maintenance issues, such as a broken shower screen door and a missing TV aerial cable, nothing that really impacted our stay. The spa facilities were excellent, and while the pool is small, it was a welcome way to relax after a day on the slopes. We had some concerns about the food based on previous reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The half-board catering was on par with what you’d expect in ski resorts across Europe. Soup or salad to start, a choice of meat or vegetarian main, and dessert. Nothing fancy, but no complaints either! The hotel’s staffing setup felt a bit unusual. It’s clear there has been a rebrand, and the bar and restaurant seem to operate independently. Reception was often unmanned, and the front door was locked in the evening, which was a little odd. Location-wise, it’s fantastic for accessing the slopes. The Schladming ski area is vast but not ideal for beginners - expect mostly challenging red runs. Overall, a great stay with good skiing and a comfortable hotel. We would happily return!

Having done Schladming 7 times this is the best location for the options of different slopes, it’s perfect now they have done the new gondola to hochwurzen,it’s a nice 20 min walk into town which we did most days. The pool is lovely at the end of a long ski day and a lovely sauna area. The staff were all lovely. We loved the food it was enough variety for us, we ate out on the Buffett day. Schladming is not a big apres ski area but if you want more bars you might want to be closer to the town. We will definitely return to this hotel

This was a Crystal ski holiday and everything was very good…apart from the food which was more catered chalet standard than hotel. Soup/ salad/ choice of two basic main courses & desert. It was perfectly adequate but does not compare well with our other hotel half board experience.

The hotel is very well located. The rooms are large and very clean. Dinner was meant to be table service. However, 3 out of 7 nights was a buffet. One buffet night the food ran out before 8pm. The food quality was very variable. Often over-cooked meat and often lacked taste. Dinner was meant to be from 6pm to 8pm. It wasn’t made clear that they will clear everything away at 8pm and stop serving. At one point, we were told we had to have main course whilst we were still eating starter at 7:50pm. The whole experience of dinner was very unpleasant and stressful. It is clear that the hotel have out-sourced the catering and the service, or lack of, suffers hugely. On the final night, half of the half-board guests choose to eat elsewhere. If the evening meal could be sorted out, this would be a really good hotel. Management - take note!

On the plus side, the staff are super friendly and very helpful. However, the Hotel Maistatt appeared from the website to have a small gym and massage facilities but these were non-existent. Also, the room (which was so hot even with the radiators turned off that we had to sleep with the balcony door open and therefore earplugs in) did not have some basic amenities you would expect eg. black out curtains, a mini fridge or a kettle and reception only appeared to be manned for a couple of hours a day so I don't know what you'd do if you got locked out of your room. Nothing to do in the area if you are a non-skier.

Just got back from a weeks stay at Alpinhotel Maistatt. We were a group of 5 families, 23 in total with children ranging from ages 8 to 18. The hotel is in a great location, only a short walk. 3-4 minutes from the Planai west and Rohrmoos 1 lift and close enough to walk into Schladming town centre. We hired boots and skis from the Tritscher shop at the lift station who also offer free storage. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and accommodating, especially Lin. They couldn’t do enough for us including seating us together in the restaurant. The food …. some reviews on here say it’s terrible which I think is a little unfair. It’s not fine dining but we ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner every day. Breakfast has everything you need to fuel a days skiing and dinner was more than adequate. Salad and a different soup and dessert each day. One evening the pork steak was overcooked but still edible, particularly when accompanied by a glass of wine or beer. A third choice of main course to add a bit more variety would have been nice. The hotel itself was extremely clean including the pool and spa area which provided a great place for adults and kids to relax and have some fun. The skiing … we are group of mixed abilities including complete beginners and one non skier. I would say this resort is best suited to intermediates which was perfect for the majority of our group. For complete beginners there is a limited choice of blue slopes. Our beginners booked lessons through crystal ski. Their ski school meeting point was at the top of the Planai 2 lift which wasn’t easily accessible and included a bus, gondola and short walk. Other ski schools are available and their location would have suited beginners more. The apres ski … the best we’ve experienced after a number of ski holidays! We had 2 evenings in Tenna which is a 5 min bus journey or a 15 min walk after dropping your boots and skis at the bottom of the Planai west lift. Kids were welcome for the early slot and our teenagers and the adults enjoyed the Austrian ski vibe! For non skiers or anyone wanting to rest their ski legs you can take a trip to the glacier or explore Schladming town centre. You can also use the Planai west or Rohrmoos lifts to meet skiers for lunch on the slopes or a drink at the end of the day. Having skied in France, Andorra and Italy before this was our first trip to Austria and after an amazing week we will certainly back!

The hotel is lovely - very well placed for the slopes, very clean, very comfortable with amazing staff. However, the big let down is the food - it was pretty terrible. I couldn't complain about breakfast but the dinner is a different story. There is basically two choices of main - meat/fish or vegetarian with no choice of desserts or cheese. There is a salad bar which is OK. The quality of the soup is questionable. The mains were, on occasion, edible. One night pork loin was served which was so over-cooked it was genuinely difficult to cut and impossible to chew. Another night the dumplings were literally uncooked - looking at the table around, not one person ate them. You could say that we should have complained while we were there but it was not the staff's fault - and the owners/managers were away from the first night until the last so there was little point. Given the previous bad reviews, we had contacted Crystal Ski prior to our holiday and they said there was an improvement plan in place - this was not the case. It seems like the hotel and bar/restaurant are run as two separate businesses. The other thing to mention is that there is nothing else near the hotel so apres ski is non-existent as the hotel bar doesn't even open until 5 p.m. We had to ski into town for a drink and catch the bus back to the hotel which is 5.30 - it's a good 25 minute walk - and that's in normal shoes without carrying skis.
