We went for the award winning Sunday roast. It was the worst Sunday roast dinner we had ever had; even the drinking water was warm. However the cauliflower cheese and carrot were good. Nobody came to check if there were any issues. The lady who took our payment was lovely and the best part of our experience.

Very comfortable & relaxing stay. Superb room with lovely facilities. Views from room and lots of little touches like fresh milk. Loved the quality linen & towels. Exemplary customer service, welcoming & helpful, particularly from Jessica & Rose. Great breakfast

Service and attitude poor. Two behind the bar not really knowing what they were doing. I asked for 2 diet cokes, told they don't have it but have a sugar free cola. They gave us 2 cokes that have 36 grams of sugar in each one. Asked for money back after queueing again. Told no but replaced with zero sugar cokes. The label pointed out these were very high in caffeine. So both were left. Here's the thing - a 33cl coke substitute costs £4.30 each !!! Where is £8.60 for 2 small cokes acceptable? Never be back - and you have been warned. Zero stars.

Nice room, but no view. Loo didn’t flush properly. Shower head too low for anyone around 6 foot tall. Breakfast uninspired and food delivery very slow. Dinner a huge disappointment. Ordered tomahawk steak to share, weren’t asked how we’d like it cooked and it came out almost raw. Sent it back twice and it was still underdone. Wouldn’t rush back.

First off, the staff are excellent; friendly, helpful and an absolute pleasure. The wine and the beer was also good, but that is about where it ended. We went on a Tuesday, so Curry night. Not sure what it is trying to be; small portions of the starters were overcooked, the main course Keema curry was served in a small bowl that made it look like you were eating dog food out of a bowl; not what I expected. Definitely not worth the hype.

We have had the tasting menu a couple of times. Strong Asian influence . Over all the food is interesting and very well presented by knowledgeable interested staff. My pointers for a 5 star review, The meal is not about a main course which is far too big for a tasting menu and the 3 deserts may be one too many. Finish on a savory local cheese based would be nice We will be back and hope for more delicious surprises

Another outstanding visit. Food, rooms, location, and above all, staff, are exceptional. It is a tight turn into the car park, but I have personally seen a Bentley make it, although I'm not sure how! Overall, fabulous. Only quibble - the breakfast toast can occasionally need a chisel.

Very mixed experience at the Black bull. The nibbles and oysters were very good! Best oysters I’ve had in ages. The starters were ok but small portions. We were asked if mains were ok to be served medium rare which is great but the beef and lamb both arrived closer to blue. No one checked back on us until quite late at which point I said the meat was undercooked and cold (we had left quite a lot) and the waitress didn’t apologise or offer to change. The dessert was nice and the wine was great. All in all the service front of house is a bit amateurish and the food hit or miss. Not great when the bills is 200 quid!
