The accommodation in Jogja provides spacious, traditional rooms with excellent hospitality, diverse breakfast, and a perfect base for exploring. However, some may find the decor too traditional.

My late grandparents lived in Yogyakarta in the 1950s, and I wanted to get a sense of the kind of house they called home. This homestay is a charming and authentic old Javanese family house. It felt like stepping back in time, giving me a deep connection to my family roots. The staff is very kind and welcoming. The rooms are small wooden cottages, each equipped with airconditioning. The shower had warm water. The on-site restaurant serves reasonably priced Indonesian food, with accommodations for allergies. Breakfast is included in the room rate. The night before, staff offers 3 breakfast options, letting you choose your dish and time. The omelet and banana pancake were both excellent. They also offer a laundry service, including both express and standard options at reduced rates. The staff could easily fix a couple of issues: the mosquito net had many large holes, letting mosquitoes in, and the room lacked blankets—just a small bedspread that didn’t fully cover the bed. A bigger issue is that the rooms are not soundproof, despite what’s advertised. I could hear other guests talking, laughing, and coughing. Twice during my first night at the homestay, I had to ask noisy guests on the terrace to be quiet, while management did nothing. When I complained, the staff simply said, "They leave tomorrow," as if that solved anything. Furthermore, roosters crowed from 1:00 to 9:00 AM, and Islamic prayer and music from 3:30 to 5:30 AM further disrupted my sleep. At 7:00 AM, Islamic prayer was broadcasted through speakers again, making it impossible to sleep in. If you’re a light sleeper, I cannot recommend this place.

We choose the family room 2 adults & 2 children that has plenty of room with 3 large beds, 2 toilets, beautiful rock bath (that soothed my sore back), and lovely little seating nooks outside. A Javanese style homestay opened for 15 years as the owner explained when he came out to see us off. Expect some wearing tear but minimal to the experience of sleeping in an authentic Javanese homestyle with friendly staff.

We spent three nights at Bedhost Homestay, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The peace and the beautiful green surroundings make for a truly relaxing stay. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They know the area very well and assisted us with everything, from arranging a laundry service to planning activities. The bike tour they offer is truly a highlight! We rode on brand-new bicycles through local villages and visited small family-run factories where tempeh, tofu, crackers(kerupuk), and bricks are made. Additionally, we got a unique glimpse into local village life and farming. It was fascinating to see how farmers work. If you’re a fan of local art, the batik created by Javanese artists in the area is a must-see. A perfectly faclilitaded bike-tour! As for the owner himself, Bedhost (his nickname), there’s a lot to say. He is a VW-classic car enthusiast and an artist, which is clearly reflected in the architecture of the cottages and the stunning woodwork. His philosophy of slow living is evident everywhere, making this the perfect place to unwind after busy days filled with activities.

If you want a comfortable place to stay in a peaceful authentic( and beautiful) setting at a modest price go to Bedhot homestay. Helpful warm staff, a fantastic host ( the artist Bedhot) , nice local food( see menu- also included varied breakfast) and great little touches like gratis endless chilled water, make this place quite special.. If you are lucky Bedhot ( a VW enthusiast) might even take you for a free spin around the paddy fields in the vintage vehicle in picture attached . We would love to go back!
