Excellent Japanese style inn run by an Ainu couple. Delicious and ample dinner and breakfast. Located only a few minutes walk from cruise ticket offices and departure ports so you can save a few dollars on parking as well.

Chief's House was my candidate for Kiki's reservation on the day I didn't get a reservation, but I unexpectedly got to experience local life again. I had experienced it there once when I went to Furano in 2017. I had to make my own bed, but I didn't have to this time. However, my mother didn't like it because there was no toilet in the room and I had to go outside to use it, and there was no air-conditioning. The water in the sink was rusty. I am not so particular about B&Bs because they are cheap, the quilts are thick and it's not cold even without air-conditioning. The four-person room I booked was not big enough to add another layer. The biggest problem was water. I asked an elderly person at the front desk to take me to another sink, but it still didn't work. I was too lazy to do it, so I just bought three large bottles of water from the vending machine, which was enough. The food here is very local and delicious. Although the hardware cannot be donated, the boss and his wife are really good people. It was not convenient for me to go to Kiki the next day. The boss's wife saw that I was in trouble and drove me up. She is really a good person and helped me out of my urgent need.

We arrived in Utoro quite late, so we booked this hotel to stay for one night. This hotel is a B&B, but I seldom stay in B&Bs, so my opinion may not be very objective. Shoes need to be left at the door and changed into slippers when moving around indoors. There is no elevator in the 3-story building, so you need to carry your luggage to the room by yourself. In addition to the 150 yen hot spring tax, a 500 yen cleaning fee was also charged 😂 In Japanese-style guest rooms, washing and toilets are all shared facilities. Although the layout is quite unique, the hygiene is indeed not as good as that of a hotel. The hot spring is on the B1 floor, it's just a small bathroom, but the hot spring is brown and there are a lot of impurities. I strongly suspect that it is hair that was not cleaned up. I personally don't recommend it. I'd rather stay in a hotel.
