📍Nozawa Onsen Grand Hotel
✨ Hotel features
The hotel is in a great location, close to the ski resort, and easy to walk to the hot spring street, winter stay is especially atmospheric to soak in the hot spring at night looking at the snow, especially in the open air, when the snow is super cold, the body is super hot, very magical ice and fire feeling.
♨️ Surrounding environment
🔹Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort - Long enough ski trails, rich terrain!
🔹Onsen Street Walk - Traditional Japanese street full of small shops, try onsen buns, Nozawa vegetables, hand-beaten soba noodles, warming and authentic.
🔹 Taoist God Fire Festival (January 15th every year) The atmosphere is super lively!
🛁Rooms & Facilities
🔹 Hot spring large bath & open-air bath view is excellent, unfortunately private bath was not open during stay.
🔹 Spacious room, clean and tidy, Japanese design, super comfortable to sleep.
🔹 Winter is especially feeling, as soon as you open the window, you will see the mountains of white snow, after skiing back to the hotel to bathe, chill the whole way.
🍽️ Dining experience
🔹 Breakfast (buffet) - Western + Japanese option, miso soup, Nozawa, grilled fish are quite good.
🔹 Dinner (Kaiseki) - Exquisite Japanese banquet cuisine, including sashimi, wagyu beef, tempura, taste good but no special surprises.
💗 Check-in experience
The perfect combination of skiing + hot springs, the hotel environment is comfortable, the location is convenient, the surrounding traditional hot spring street, and the Daozu God Fire Festival such a limited experience, winter stay CP value is extremely high!

Our first Ryokan experience that we will never forget! The staff was great and the facilities are amazing. They have a big variety of onsen bath to choose from, public and private ones. And the private ones don't require a reservation or extra charge, which makes the experience more comfortable. You don't need to think about rushing in or out of the bath, can just relax. The dinner and breakfast was also great, thanks to the good service of the staff!
If we ever get back to Japan, we will come here again.

Small and cute place to be. Once you get to the train station or bus stop, give them a call and they will come pick you up. You can walk if you want, but it does go uphill a little bit if you have suitcase with you. Staff is really nice and accommodating. We did have one of our friends ending up pregnant on the trip after we had booked the trip and she was not able to eat many of the foods. They were really nice and worked with what she could eat and even gave her a little omamori (like a charm) for her healthy and safe pregnancy and birth. Would recommend to others. The individual onsen in each room is wonderful and if you want to have more people gather together, get the bigger rooms. Mt. Fuji is visible but understand that it depends on time of day and season. Due to the smaller space, there is only one area to gather downstairs, which is also where you check in. Not a big deal for us, but for those who wants like a whole area to walk around in the hotel, then may want to look at those bigger hotels.

Our family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado.
Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture.
If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!

The room is super super super great! The food is very rich and delicious. The front desk staff was very friendly from the time we got to the shuttle bus. The owner of the hotel came to greet us at dinner time. She is a very elegant Japanese kimono lady. There is also a collection of precious kimonos in the store, which is worth seeing. The private bath can be booked. Although the area is not large, it is worth experiencing. After checking out the next day, there is a car that can take you to Yudanaka Station or Snow Monkey Park. If you go to the Snow Monkey Park, you will also be given a guide map to Yudanaka Station by bus. In short, it is a very good experience.

I highly recommend this hotel, it should be one of the best in Nozawa. The rooms are spacious and the hotel staff are also very professional and enthusiastic. I especially recommend the hotel's own hot springs, which have very good facilities and are decorated in a romantic atmosphere. It happened that after skiing, it was snowing, and the open-air hot spring felt particularly good.

The hotel is elegantly decorated, with exquisite furnishings and a very Japanese style.
The hotel is about 500 meters away from Yudanaka Station. It is not in the same location as the Shibu Onsen Street and the hotel group near Yudanaka Station. It is a slightly deserted location. This Japanese-style river view room has a large area, is very warm in the room, and the window view is also unique. The room facilities are also complete, and there are drinks and snacks for check-in.
However, the Japanese tatami feels a bit hard, and the pillow feels bumpy when sleeping. The sound insulation is poor, and you can hear footsteps upstairs.
The breakfast is relatively rich, but there are more Japanese meals, and I am not used to it.
The overall feeling is still good.
The Sakaeya is an ideal spot for travelers wanting to discover the city. Visitors to Yamanouchi will find that the Sakaeya is a fantastic accommodation choice. The hotel offers easy access to Yudanaka Station, just 2km away. Seeing Yamanouchi's sights from this hotel is easy with Amagawa Shrine, Onsenji temple and Ichiban yu Hatsu-yu all close by. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. Guests of this Yamanouchi hotel can make use of the parking facilities. There's never a dull moment at this hotel, our guests indicate that the facilities are excellent.

We were there in February, it was minus outside, but the room had a heater and air conditioning. Not frozen. The hotels have three onsens, one shared for men, one for women and one private. They also give you the key to 9 public onsens in the village. The hostess can pick you up or take you to the nearest station, she also took us to dinner and to Monkey Park. Breakfast is traditional. And in general, the hotel is traditional Japanese, I advise anyone who is interested in staying in a traditional hotel. But keep in mind that you need to sleep on the tatama and wear slippers, they are not allowed in the shower, and you also need to wash in the onsen.

It's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up.
The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range.
We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect.
We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night.
There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

CChentutu555⭐Geographical location:
Yudanaka Hot Spring is relatively close to Jigokudani Monuen, a 20-minute walk from the station. It should be noted that you can pick up the station before 5 pm. We arrived at 5:30, but the boss said we could not pick up. Although the distance is not long, it still takes a while to walk on the mountain road. You can also take a bus, which runs every half an hour.
⭐Service:
There are two shopkeepers serving you, and their attitude is very good. They will help you deliver your luggage to the coffee shop next to the station when you travel the next day. It should be noted that if you check in after 3 pm, you will not be able to make calls in the morning. I left something in the room. No one answered the phone after three calls. In the end, I had to go to the store to get it again.
⭐Facilities:
The room layout is relatively simple and the facilities are relatively simple. To be honest, the heating is relatively small and it is a bit cold at night. There is no shower room and toilet, and the sink only has cold water. Shower rooms and hot springs need to be charged separately, 500 yen. Public toilets (all small Japanese-style hotels are like this) are very clean, because there are few rooms and few guests, and you have never touched anyone else in the toilet. Anyway, the price/performance ratio is pretty good.
⭐Meals:
Our order included dinner and breakfast, but the portions were small and not enough to fill us up. When we got out of the station, we had to remember to buy some food from Lawson. There are no convenience stores in the hot spring street! Mineral water is not provided, and there is an additional charge of +100yen.
⭐Hot spring:
You can soak in 9 soups on the street, but there is only one key, so you have to go there separately. The private soup shop in the store is in B1. It is relatively simple, has a lot of moisture, and is not very clean. It is recommended to go to the public soup house. Although the boss said that there is no place to take a bath in the public bath, so you can only buy a private bath + shower, which is a bit embarrassing.
GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!
BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there.
The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance.
- The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit.
- The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning.
- After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics.
- Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30.
- The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want.
- The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this.
- Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern).
We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.
TTangVery nice place and wonderful service. Due to heavy snowing, we were late but they waited for us patiently. We supposed missed the dinner time but they were very friendly and considerate and everything were well prepared when we arrived under heavy snow with an empty stomach. They concered our safety over all other issues and gave us a very warmly welcome. The private onsen is free of charge and they offered the most juicy apples in the world for all you can eat!! A warmly and friendly hotel, definitely worth to visit especially if you are planning to visit the snow monkey. (5 mins car, 20 mins walk)
GGuest UserWe came to Shiga Plateau for skiing, we have been to Yudanaka four times, and we have lived in 8 different homestays. Daimaru House is the best one:
A The boss's English is good, there is no problem with communication (the boss is not good);
B There is a bathroom in the room, which is very convenient (most of the bathrooms in the homestay are shared and inconvenient)
C In the hot spring town, eating is very convenient;
D Going out is the station, it is convenient to go skiing on the mountain;
E Indoor and outdoor hot springs are large and powerful;
F The boss is very nice and provides pick-up/send-off/go to snow monkey park service (this is very important in Tangtianzhong, some homestays do not provide it)
In a word, come to Shiga Plateau skiing, choose Daimaru House is right!
CChuree WungWe are very impressed with the hotel service. The hotel makes travel convenient and smooth. There are pick-up and drop-off fromYudanaka Station to the hotel and drop-off at Monkey onsen. The hotel is in the good location,in the heart of Shibu Onsen, beutiful view of the mountian and river in front. The beer, white and red wine in the refrigerator in the room are free. The onsen is not very big but clean.Dinner and breakfast are fresh and delicious. Shibu Hotel is a very good hotel, worth staying.
GGuest UserSome of the best customer service we've ever experienced. Ms. Abe was wonderful and her English was excellent. The outdoor onsen was perfect, truly beautiful. A big, well landscaped area, truly relaxing. All guests get to reserve 30 minutes of private use each evening, which was wonderful, but you can also go back during men's time, women's time, or mixed if you want to enjoy some more. The breakfast was also very good, and the room was sizeable. This was our favourite stay in Japan.
EElinaNikIt was brilliant!
It is the same with pictures on this site.
They gave me yukata and towel and changed it every day. I had a tea and enjoyed it on my balcony. I tried a futon at first time in my life.
I had my own reserved table for breakfast.
❗❗❗The hotel has its own bus with driver, which took me to the Snow Monkey Park and to the station for free!
Actually staff was so polite! It is seems like you are someone important.
Actually the only one minus that you can't go to all 9 Shibu Onsen's baths, but just to 9th bath only. But the hotel has its own bath even open-air.
It was really nice and comfortable accommodation.
LLIThe hotel is old and the food is of average quality. For skiers, the traffic is not particularly convenient, but it is better than the lotus pond or the ichinose. . However, the hotel service is very good, especially the front desk manager Zen, very warm, and English is very good, it is called the hotel's smashing.
GGuest UserExcellent location next to ski lift at Sun Valley. 3 mins walk to the local bus station with buses going to Nagano Station direct (express service) or Yudanaka station.
Room and bath room (2 basins and 1 sink) are spacious - we had 3 futons and 2 single beds for our family of 5. They may be a little dated but very clean. Room has a view to outside snowy forest during our time.
Highlights of our stay:
Half board meals - authentic Japanese! Big portions and lots of pretty and dishes served! Free coffee everyday in late afternoon.
Service was impeccable - the front desk lady (very friendly and excellent service disposition) , and the elderly folks who served in the restaurant - thumbs up!
