Markree Castle

Everything from start to finish on the day was superb. The food was delicious. The staff very helpful. However, asking a bride to ensure she fills all rooms beforehsnd and organise the rooms was arduous and stressful. Demanding that she have at least 140 guests for a summer wedding was a tall order. She wanted a smaller wedding number. While demanding that number and meanwhile only accomodating half of it in the unsanctified church, though beautiful, was unreal. When we asked what happens the overload of the other 70 guests manager told us they can go to bar, have a Guinness and watch it on big screen or have ceremony outside which wasn't possible on a cloudy wet 5th July in Ireland West. I thought his reply completely demoralised the dignity of the marriage ceremony so the couple had a beautiful ceremony at nearby Balisadare Church where they were warmly welcomed by Fr Towey.

Probably a once-in--lifetime experience for most travelers. This painstakingly restored castle is opulent, and breathtaking in size and majesty. Our room was gigantic - think about that in Europäern hotel rooms! The staff were warm and most hospitable. The meals were elegant and delicious. The grounds are extensive and feature beautiful woodsy walks. Perhaps the simplest way to describe our expérience here was to say that we now know what it must have been like to live at "Downton Abbey." If you get the chance to stay at this beautiful marvel - Go!

The castle and amenities are beautiful. But what truly makes Markree Caste great is all the hard working, friendly and professional staff. I rate it six stars if it were available!

Faultless. Celebrated a family wedding at Markree Castle and loved every minute of it! A wonderful venue with a variety of areas, super staff and top quality food. Thank you to everyone and to Fionn for our guided tour!
