Hostel & Glamping Santa Fortunata

We stayed for a week in the campsite with our caravan. We hadn’t booked ahead so we were grateful to find a pitch at a reasonably busy time. The staff were very helpful. The pitch was level and good size (for Italian standards). The showers were fine, clean and lots of hot water. There were toilet seats, but the paper was intermittent and the soap was not refilled regularly so it ran out. The bar was closed, but the pool was still open and it was nice for a dip on a hot day. There are strict rules about bathing caps, as is normal in Italy. We didn’t try the restaurant, but really there is no need as there is lots of choice in Sorrento. The public bus stops right outside the campsite, which is good as the shuttle bus didn’t allow our dog entry. It costs the same and runs very frequently (with no requirement to tip the driver). Santa Fortunata is a really good base to explore the local area and we would happily return. I have given 4/5 due to lack of dog friendliness, lack of toilet paper at times and bar closure.

When we arrived knackered and hot we were greeted by very unfriendly staff who kept us waiting for 30mins until someone could be bothered to take us to our bungalow (we could have walked there in 5mins had they pointed the way!). It was a nice wooden chalet style bungalow: with a kitchen and bathroom, clean towels and bed linen. Reading previous reviews we were a bit worried about the ants, but couldn't see any! We ate at the restaurant (surly staff) twice when we there and I really enjoyed the food - big portions and speedy service. We also used their small shop to buy bits and bobs, and again the rudest people in the world. We tried to speak Italian (we would get laughed at and/or spoken back in fluent English!!) and not be vile English tourists, but I think they labelled us as that from the start. Do not attempt walking (or indeed jogging, as we saw some mad people do!) into Sorrento! The campsite office sells bus tickets and the buses go every 20 mins or so outside the campsite. The road is insane - cars, buses and mopeds going at tops speeds, all over taking on corners! I have never feared for my life more than walking down that road!!! The beach there was very nice - quieter than Sorrento's main beach. It is not sandy though, but the rocks are flat and good to sunbathe on and the water very blue and clear. All in all I really enjoyed my stay, it costs very little and you get a lot in return. The unfriendliness of the staff (and in fact all of the Bay of Naples) was the only thing wrong with my trip. Oh and the ants...they made an appearance by about the second day. Buy bug killer.

We stayed in one of the upgraded cabins. It was modern, clean and tidy. It was small but adequate for a family of three. The facilities were good and set up largely for camping. The pool was clean and the life guards were present. The shop was over priced but to be expected. They had laundry services that were a bit of a faff but worked. The negative was the restaurant. The food was average, defrosted and bland. The head waiter was consistently rude. He does the breakfast service and dinner. By the evening he clearly runs out of steam and begrudgingly serves. He is rude to the staff who clearly don’t like him. Clearly in the wrong job. He would be better suited to cleaning or gardening where his contact with guests is minimal.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the reception staff who helped us to our room. Once we got into our very small room, we decided to head back to reception and ask for help on transportation throughout our stay. We then found out their shuttle was an additional charge to use both there and back, WiFi was an extra charge, and the beach chairs are not included, you have to rent them. Reception also was mocking us because we were asking questions. We then were told in order to get to our ferry we had to book a very expensive taxi, come to find out a bus would’ve been able to take us to our location. We felt like we were taken advantage of and not respected by the staff. Although the small beach was nice, I would not recommend to travelers who are on a budget due to the extra charges and lack of help from staff.

Phenomenal experience. Stayed in the dodome tent and it was beautifully setup - overlooking the bay! Warning if you’re over 6ft you might find it uncomfortable at times - but nothing to not make the stay worth it! The swimming pool was lovely (remember to take a swimming hat) and the staff were unbelievably wonderful! The shuttle bus into town for €1.50 was SO WORTH IT! USB sockets were great for charging phones, as well as a light and fan in the tent. Showers and toilets were clean and nice - would absolutely recommend to anyone!
