We held an event for 86 people in November in their Marquee which was a resounding success so we decided to go back there for another event for 34 people in their newly refurbished North Wing Restaurant. Absolutely perfection. Room layout first class. Staff, they couldn’t do enough for us. Not just on the day but on the build up. So accommodating. Thank you to Christina, Debra, Ben and Andy in particular however the rest of the staff were first class. As for the chef, wow everyone said how good the food was. Highly recommend going there. Can also say others who attended and never been there before said they will definitely return with their family and friends.

I held my Yoga Retreat Day at Downham Hall in February and it was the perfect day! From the setting, to the co-ordinating, the support and the gorgeous food - I could t fault it! Everyone who attended commented on what a gorgeous place it was. It’s so accessible yet it feels like you’ve escaped the busy life and found the most peaceful setting. We had a friend's birthday at the hotel and they did a truly fantastic job. Staff went well above and beyond. Room as very nice and comfortable. Breakfast was a joy.

We had a wedding there and we stayed in the hotel as well. I cannot praise the owner and staff enough. My daughter was made to feel very special by everyone. The food was great and the outside activities were very well appreciated as they kept the kids entertained whilst the wedding photographs were undertaken. The accomodation was clean and very comfy. The breakfast was tasty and the staff couldn't do enough for you. If you were looking for a venue (wedding, birthday bash etc.), look no further.

We were greeted at the front door and shown immediately to a lovely bright and sunny room. Our room overlooked the church and car park and to be honest, it was so quiet we didn't hear any cars. Breakfast was enjoyable, especially the coffee. There was a good breakfast menu choice and everything made to order.

I have worked my way through quite a number of hotels in this area over the past few months and this is definitely the best by a long shot. We stayed in a lovely room with beautiful views and everything you could need for a short stay. The restaurant food was excellent and they have a great staff team. I will be back!

A great place to celebrate my wife’s special birthday. We loved the setting and gardens, which had a wedding marquee, a great setting for weddings. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedroomed upstairs was really nice, well equipped, good shower and comfortable. The stairs up are manageable for slight mobility issues, but people on wheelchairs wouldn’t cope. Dinner was utterly superb in every way, and a nice traditional breakfast to send us on our way. Really close to all the south Essex towns, but you felt you were in a different rural world. It isn’t the cheapest place for a break, but you pay for and get the quality you want. Highly recommended for short breaks, and it is great to find somewhere this close and this good.
