Ideal base for exploring Landmannalaugar and its surroundings. Guests appreciated the cozy, clean rooms and friendly, multilingual staff. Convenient location for off-the-beaten-path adventures.

I think giving three points is too much! You need to wear slippers or shoe covers when entering the hotel, but the shoe covers are all old and rotten. It's a long way from the front desk to the room. You can drag the dirty suitcases at will, but you can't wear shoes. I don't understand. The room is very small, and the hot water is from an electric water heater, which is not enough for one person to wash at a time. The small table is shaky and the hygiene is hard to describe. Alas

Room was ok but breakfast included, WHAT BREAKFAST. IT WAS SERVED 7AM UNTIL 10.30AM. We got there at 9.15 and there was nothing to eat except the last remains of a end bit of bread. 3 slices of ham, cheese that even the mice would run from. No bowls. The girl behind the counter was to busy playing hide and seek with us. £242 for one night.

It's the only hotel in the area so there's little competition unless you want to spend hours driving in order to go hiking. Its origins as a place for workers to live while working on nearby dams shows-rooms are small, and plain. Plan on eating there for dinner and breakfast. And paying dearly for any coffee or snacks that you purchase. Dinner service was slow, but you served yourself from the buffet for breakfast. Their packed lunch was generous with sandwiches, fruit, drinkable yogurt, juice, and a candy bar. The heat would not turn on in the first room I was assigned so they changed my room which turned out to be larger (a bonus because there was minimal space between the bed and walls in the first room).

Stayed here one night in early June as part of a small group tour. A single story establishment in a remote area. For the first but not the last time we were met by a sign asking us to remove our shoes/boots or wear plastic booties over our shoes. Apparently an Icelandic tradition and one that makes sense in an area were guest are likely to spend a lot of time hiking. My wife found her sandals handy to wear around the building. The room was adequate. The hot water supplied to the bath was provided by a small water heater installed near the ceiling of the bathroom and somewhat limited in the amount of hot water available, adequate but limited. The view from the room looked out across a landscape but was framed by the wings of the building. As we were arriving early in the season the restaurant had a limited menu, primarily burgers. There was a vegetarian meal available. Breakfast was a buffet with an excellent variety and well presented.

The Highland Center Hrauneyjar is a nice guesthouse that is a base for lots of nice trips. From there our group went to Landmannalaugar the next day. We arrived here after a visit to the beautiful waterfalls at Gjain.

this is what $400 a night gets you: a small room with windows that don't open (ventilation slots on each side of the window are not covered by mesh and welcome insects), a fairly comfortable bed, an ancient looking bathroom with a damaged shower tub and no soap in the dispenser; a cold breakfast that is the saddest of affairs (not even butter!)

Thus place seems to be a bit underrated on tripadvisor. We stayed at highland hotel (sister property but check kn at centre) Staff were quite nice. Food at restaurant in highland hotel and highland centre was good. Breakfast at hotel was quite good. Rooms a little small bit comfortable and clean. Iceland is expensive in general, this place did not feel like a rip off in that context. It allowed us to visit Landmannalaugar area twice without having to bring camping gear so quite happy with location. Feels far more authentic than staying on ring road cookie cutter hotels.

Good place to stay if you want to go off the beaten path. The hotel is located at the end of you can call the civilized south of Iceland. If you want to go to i.e. Landmannalaugar this place is a good start. However, the prices are somewhat excessive for the value. The hotel is clean, but not in very well shape. In the hallways the lighting comes off the wall and in our room there were several damages that seemed like a quick fix. The breakfast is fine, nothing special.
