We booked the Christmas package, arriving Christmas Eve and departing on Boxing Day. This was the first time we decided to spend Christmas away from home and so we were really looking forward to our stay. The room and hotel decor was all very nice but the thing that really let it down for us was the food - which is such a big part of the festive period. I’m veggie and pre ordered my meal in advance. The menu wasn’t really to my liking and understand this is subjective. However to be offered soup for starters on both meals was disappointing. However the real let down was Christmas lunch - it was a vegetable wellington with kale. No other veggies in sight. I had to ask for some roast potatoes which the waitress kindly got for me. So if you’re a veggie don’t expect a traditional lunch! Christmas Day we knew was a buffet supper, except they didn’t cater for vegetarians!!! When I wrote the the hotel the manager responded saying ‘Beth on reception hadn’t highlighted any dietary needs that night’. Firstly I think it’s poor the manager off loaded responsibility on to a receptionist, moreover - I’d ordered vegetarian food so they knew, yet the manager wouldn’t take any ownership for this which I was astonished by. Sadly the hotel lacked any ambience on Christmas Day with guests either going out or staying in their rooms. We sat in the lounge for an hour or so and not one member of staff came to us to see if we wanted to order any drinks. Final thoughts - a nice hotel but I wouldn’t recommend the Christmas package (esp if you’re veggie) it’s a lot of money for a very underwhelming experience.
